Is the M performance exhaust worth it?

Currently I have the stock exhaust on my M235i. and was debating wether or not to spend the money to upgrade to the M performance exhaust, or put some aesthetic performance parts on it. For the people that have it, how is it compared to the stock exhaust?

I've been wondering the same thing. From what I've gathered, the only thing you get out of it is better sound, but it does tend to drone somewhat which is a negative. Also, the sound is really only noticeable from outside the car (to others) but from inside, there isn't much difference (if any with the windows rolled up).

Wonder if there's a way to code active sound to make it louder :-P

It would be worth it to get rid of fake exhaust and get some more sound. I was underwhelmed by it. I drove in my buddy's 128i and it sounded better, more "real" volume.

I would be very interested in the exhaust for sure. I bought it for my 2004 E46 and was very happy with it.

I personally love it. It does tend to drone if you drive steady rpms in sport mode (which I wouldn't do, anyway), but in comfort or eco pro it sounds normal. I doubt there's any kind of performance gains made, but i love hearing that crackle when getting off the gas just above 2k rpms so much that I barely ever have the radio on when it's in sport.

Oh shit. I was reading through the coding cheat sheet Antonio sent me. Haven't done the coding session with him yet but apparently to disable active sound you do the following:

ASD Module
3000>Funktionen-Baureihe>Set to F021

So did you have the perf exhaust at delivery or put on after driven stock for a while...the stock exhaust also pops and crackles. From what i hear from videos, the PE sounds just a little louder

i got mine from the factory with it, but i have driven it stock a few times and it's definitely more noticeable with a deeper growl to it.

depends what you want. i don't plan on modding my car really, so just getting an exhaust from the factory made sense. there are probably better options out there if you're looking for performance gains, but having the cost residualized and a warranty to match that of my car's, it worked for me.

JUST (4:50pm today) picked mine up from the shop. Had factory for 4,635 miles .. M Exhaust .. 32 miles .. (already broken in, with 1,500 miles on it) got it from the Hail car from PA (see other thread), last night.

You CANNOT tell a difference at highway cruising speeds (I-95) ..

In town, yes, you can here it reflect off other cars around you. I am glad I didn't pay full price. I'll just say that. Didn't think I'd like the chrome tips ... turns out, I do.

For the price I paid, fine ..

^ Let it break in more. Have had mine on for about 4500 miles and it sounds very good IMO. Paired with an intake the car makes a nice, subdued sound. Sounds amazing under wot in sport mode and the crackling and pops gets a lot louder with time. Honestly I don't notice any drone, but then again my other car is a japanese econobox with a 3" turbo back exhaust, so I'm a little desensitized.

Maybe so. Either way I'm keeping it. She does crackle and pop more, to be honest.

I'm happy with the purchase, I got it port installed took delivery of car with it. It sounds louder, deeper growl and the burps are louder when shifting as well. Again what ///CPT said, it's residualized into the payment on our leases, don't plan on making a rocket ship here. To each is own my friends....

Remember, if you're looking for a performance gain exhaust, you're gonna be paying a prettty penny into the $2K+ Range and then you get a full exhaust, this is just a axel back.

Let's be honest. It is a performance muffler not a performance exhaust.

Love, love love my MPE!

It totally makes the car much more enjoyable to drive fore me. Especially when it burps and pops at up/downshifts. I don't find that it drones at all or is noticeable to passers by or passengers when driving normally in comfort mode. But put her in sport+ and punch it and there's a whole lotta fun coming out of it.

I'm a music nut and i often find myself turning the stereo down just so I can hear my baby roar when I goose it a bit. :-)

Okay, update. Just took her out for a quick spin, while the roads are quieter.

You can tell a difference on the side roads.

I'm a bit happier.

BTW, if anyone is in need of my stock one, for whatever reason, just let me know. I did post that in the classifieds.
