BMW driver flees scene
WTF is wrong with people. This isn't an F3x, but it's a BMW.

If he was drunk then it gives the alcohol time to burn off. When they catch up to him, I suspect "leaving the scene of an accident" might be a less severe charge than "accident and bodily injury while DUI."

This person is likely a frequent flyer in the criminal justice system however. They are hoping they can't be tied to the accident, or car.

its a natural response for some people- flight or fight... he chose flight.
he's going to have to get some good alibis, do a great deal of perjury, explain why his blood is all over the car (assuming he got hurt too), and not have been caught on camera (unlikely) He most likely will get charged up to the $$@. Feel bad for the people... |

I have heard of people fleeing after an accident to later report the car stolen... as in the police arrive the next morning and you say your can is in the garage or something last time you saw it.

Someone who we suspect was drunk hit my friend's parked car on the street (late at night), disabled the guy's car and he bailed. Called the police on himself the next morning and saved him a DUI but still got the misdemeanor hit and run (much, much better)

I agree the driver was likely operating under the influence. He probably wanted to avoid an arrest for DUI and the accident so he ran as fast as he could. Pretty smart from his perspective. As far as prosecution goes, if the owner cannot be placed behind the wheel of the vehicle at the time of the crash he will walk. If a witness cannot identify the owner as the driver and the police cannot obtain enough information to convince a jury he was the driver he will walk.

However, if you're under the influence and wreck your car (1 car wreck, like you run off the road and hit a pole or something) running is the smart move legally. I've known two people that have done that and ended up with little or no legal trouble and one of them is a cop now.
