SCR innards?
Does anyone have a picture inside the SCR catalytic convertor? I'm curious if it looks similar to the DPF or a standard cat from a gasser.
The curiosity around this is based on could/would the SCR get clogged up with a downpipe installed, and does it need to be removed.

My VW was tuned with all emissions left on the exhaust, I don't think the system will work with only some of the parts removed may be hard to tune it out... I really don't know though...

Why not just delete the SCR?

Seems I recall one guy did this. He had 3" SS tubing welded in from the down pipe flange all the way to the exhaust tips. I think he had it done in Maryland somewhere.
Greek, I had wondered the same thing. Looks like I will need to go seek real answers now. Without urea injection, I'm wondering if the SCR will do any scrubbing now. I will have to go see where that guys posting is now that you have stirred me up :-) |

I figure deleting the SCR will become necessary since the Ecotune pipe does not appear to have any provision for the metering module. Just wanted to get the question out there before the 10 lucky winners start reporting a clogged up SCR. If it's designed like a typical catalytic convertor then I don't see it being an issue - just tough to say without knowing.
If I don't find a suitable replacement for my car in the next month or so, then I will probably jump on board with the Ecotune pipe. At the same time, I don't want to invest that money if it will result in playing whack-a-mole with the emissions systems.

Included a picture from the Advanced Diesel Tech document. Also, here's a thread with more info about it the SCR and exhaust sounds/experimentation: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=936032 I still have the SCR catalyst in place and after ~10,000 miles its still flowing good enough to do 11's in the quarter mile. Also, the Ecotune downpipe does have provisions to mount the urea injector...

Thanks TDI. Do you happen to have pics of the area on the ecotune downpipe where it has provisions for the SCR metering unit? The couple pics I have seen thus far made it appear like the metering unit would no longer mate to the pipe.

It's not a close up, but you can see the area. The DEF injector mounted up without any issues.

It's setup so you can hook up everything that was on the original pipe. But some of these things aren't really necessary. Like the DPF differential pressure lines (the long thin tubes in the pic) aren't really needed since there's now no pressure across the DPF (our US version uses a differential sensor for the DPF which is different than how the Euro version was setup ... according to the BMW Advanced Diesel Technology pdf).

I didn't bother with photos as it is same as TDI's. It's half way installed so not taking it apart for photo. I will snap a pic where urea injector goes though.

That made me laugh ... Good luck on the rest of the install!

You sure about that? My Ecotune pipe actually looks a little uglier than TDI's. They went to mig welds at the flanges. I realize yours is already installed but maybe you didn't notice...
