Downsides to M-sport for a Daily Driver?
The lease on my '12 528 xDrive is due to expire in a few months, and my plan is to return to the smaller car. I'm planning on going for a 435 xDrive and am currently waffling between the Sport and M-Sport packages.
I actually like the red interior accents of the Sport package and the wheels that come standard. But, the M-Sport is a nicer looking exterior package and the steering wheel alone looks substantially better. However, this car is used as a daily driver, year round, mix of highway and backroad. I'll get winter tires for it regardless of which package I get. Are there downsides to the Msport that I'm not thinking of? The larger intakes, is the car much lower? Winter driving? Thanks! |

I use mine as a DD. No downside. I don't miss my fog lights, and with the xDrive it's not any lower. Just make sure you get the DHP, and I recommend the lighting package with the MSport. Helps me not miss my fog lights on my old e92.

Some on this forum will say getting the DHP is a must if you are apprehensive about the firmer suspension. I have the passive M-Sport suspension and at times potholes/road changes can be harsh, but if you enjoy a refined and tight chasis, then as a daily driver you will not regret getting the M-sport or Sport Lines. I thoroughly enjoy the ride and am very pleased with the passive m-sport suspension. Tire upgrades to a non-RFT will also drastically improve the ride quality as well.

People will be jealous of your car and may hate you for having a nicer car than theirs. Only downside I can think of.
This applies even more if you get estoril blue. |

All xDrive 4 series have 145mm ground clearance. Not exactly SUV territory, but a very useful increase over the 120mm with a sport suspension on a RWD car.

I worried too when ordering my M-Sport wagon which is our daily driver. My fear was the spoiler in front being a bit lower, may scrape on driveways with steep inclines. I am happy to say as long as I go slow, I can go up the craziest driveways with no scraping.
However, on many parking lot curbs you cannot drive up all the way to your front tires. I did scrape my air dam already on a parking lot curb. So you do have to be a bit more careful than you maybe had to be in your old 5 series. I am very glad I got the DHP as I live in the burbs of NYC where there are still potholes everywhere and likely always will be from now on. I use the soft setting 95% of the time and I love the plush ride.

The only m-sport downside is the low front spoiler. Gotta be careful with parking blocks/stops and curbs. I have DHP which is nice for comfort mode when I have passenger or I'm driving downtown on bad roads. I'd recommend the parking assist feature (front and rears sensors) if they're not standard. |

Weird I never get compliments on my car. I get looks sometime but never any compliments.
Probably because everyone and their grandmother drives a BMW around here. I did get one thumbs up once, that was from a girl driving a 328i F30 EBII M-Sport car. |

downside? none.
I get compliments on my EBII f30. The car definitely stands out more than say a black lux line.

I get compliments all the time on the color. Usually people at the car wash noticing how my MSport wagon looks 10 times cooler than their $120k grey Range Rover.

That's what I would've done if M-Sport had been available yet. Same goes for the wheels, you should be able to come out on top if you swap your new M-Sport wheels for the 397s. |

The compliments for my Orient Blue E46 were almost always from women. The ones for the EBII have all been from younger guys. I think my daughter was right when she was giving me a hard time about the color being and little young for me |

Wanted the interior red accent, with the red stitching on the steering and seats, but preferred the M Sport exterior. My M Sport Aero kit retrofit is on it's way, should be installed very soon. As for color, it's a very personal choice. Even if I find the EB very nice, went with Black on Black, and I do get a lot of congrats and thumbs up for my car. I have an EB M Sport in my street and it's always dirty, and still had the winters setup 2 weeks ago... So bad since it's very well optioned, and with minimal maintenance would be very nice.
