Damage in transit...
Would you take a car (lease) that was damaged during shipping and repaired at the VPC?
Also, how would one receive an invoice of all repairs performed at the VPC? Thanks. |

The VPC is essentially an extension of the factory, so yes I'd take a car that was repaired at the VPC. But as Dan said, you'd never even know - BMW doesn't announce when repairs have been done there.

My car was damaged during shipping to the dealership (upper ramp hit the trunk of my car while on the truck causing paint damage). Dealership painted the chipped area to perfection, took $500 off the car, and BMW NA gave me a $500 credit for parts/accessories. Wish they'd chip the paint again :-)

If I was buying the car, I would not want to accept that car. I suppose it would be a little better if you were leasing? |

I think by law now they have to over a certain amount
My first custom ordered BMW had transit damage. Took 3 months to show up when I noticed a paint difference between doors. Upon closer inspection you could see repair in door. Local dealership was able to confirm if was repaired. Offered to fix door, replace door, but I declined. Made them buy the car back. Waited 2 months for that 528 was not taking a damaged car knowingly. And the fact that they did not disclose it pissed me off.
So no way would I take a car repaired knowingly at the VDC unless they made it worth my while. Here's the link http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_o...,_Inc._v._Gore |

So you had to make a Federal case out of it! Actually, it appears BMW took it to the Supremes. |

Buying a new car, one would rightfully assume all of the vehicle was new. I always assumed if a vehicle was damaged and was repaired, they would have to notify you.

[QUOTE=f30-mcjca;16250116]Don't they have to announce if there is a certain amount of damage? I mean what if your roof got smashed in and caused several thousand dollars worth of damage? I would think that would be required by law. Not sure though.
[/QUOTEIn the past BMW told you of the damage if it was above a certain dollar figure. I don't know about the present. cheers vern |

I ordered a fully loaded 435 xDrive coupe on December 7th, 2013. Car was shipped to USA on the Asian Emperor. Dealer informed me on April 9th my car was at the dealer. 5 months after I placed the order is too long and I had suspicions that my car was damaged. The dealer showed me a letter that the bumper was damaged. Spoke to a lot of people including BMW. All agreed not to accept the car and that is what I did.
Only you can make that call to accept or not but personally I would not accept. Good luck. |

Thanks everyone for the responses. Very interesting stuff here.
If I was buying a car and there was damage during transit, I also would be pissed if they did not disclose. I feel that I should be able to inspect the repair or even have an independent shop verify the repair work. Sometimes people are too quick to trust BMW's repair work, thinking it would be perfect when that is not necessarily the case. Cheers everyone. |

3% rule
If damage s more than 3% they are supposed to disclose. My issue was they clearly were not able to match and blend correctly from the VDC so not sure they could make it right. Even a new door painted in Germany was iffy. Then you have a door without the matching vin plate. If paying good money for a car I want it right from the start.
