F30 Motor Lock Issue

Hey guys, my motor locked on my 335i and the local BMW dealer don't know why. I was pulling out a parking lot and the car turned off. First it said something about the stop/start, than when I tried to start it back up a message came up talking about the starter and that I should call Bmw Assist, so I did. Tow truck driver said it nay have been the battery but it wasn't. The local dealer is telling me it's not the start because they can't start it manually so they guessing the motor is locked and not trying to cover me under warranty. There is always something going wrong with this car. I been driving BMWs for 7 years now but this car gave me the most problems. I love BMW to death but I'm not paying for another motor. Do anyone know what may have caused the motor to lock? I think it may be a fuel problem (bad fuel) and maybe it hydro locked but the dealer said it would have sent a code. The code I got was the starter. What you guys think when wrong?

Why would you pay for a new motor? You have a warranty.

Hopefully its not modded.. if it is stock then i bet the start/stop motor got stuck on the flywheel or something. If so easy fix under warranty.

If your modded at all kiss it goodbye.

OP make some sense please. If there is any mechanical issue with the car that you didn't cause it's obviously covered. If on the other hand you modded or you wacked your engine with a sledgehammer this is not going to be covered. I think you're not telling us the whole story...

BEWARE it has been noted that BMW may read these forums especially when dealing when major warranty disputes.

Hydrolock only occurs if you drove through water OR there is more water than Gas in the tank. Water does not compress as easily as air thus the compression is so high the motor does not turn over (not typical with bad gas unless its all water). That is easily solvable... you just remove the plugs and turn over the motor and let the water escape... Unfortunately other damage starts to occur the longer the water is in the motor it will rust some of the non aluminium components especially those that are not well lubricated... BUT under most circumstance you can get the motor to turn back over with some work.

If you drove through water when this occurred that would not be covered under warranty BUT would be covered through your insurance (if you have comprehensive)

Motor will lock also if your crank and cam do not align. That can happen for many reasons... typically its due to a thrown rod, broken cam or broken crank. Another reason a motor will lock is if you spun a bearing or have blown a ring and there was some components have fused together (typical when you run without oil - such as a oil pump going bad and the person ignoring the warning) --- under all these circumstances they are fatal and more components typically are damaged-- especially the block. Even bad lifters could cause motor lock but typically not as they just will be very noisy when they fail.

The dealer is correct other than a hydro lock the motor needs to be replaced as the damage becomes a cascading and too many parts would need to be tested for tollerance and replaced

Bad fuel is easily remedied... drain the system... crank it a few times, hit each cylinder with some starter fluid or drop of gas (literally), put in good gas... it will start... bad gas unfortunately can cause fatal detonation damaging the pistons or valves... but generally never causes an engine to completely Lock UNLESS there was more water than gas...

Audi of America, as a point of comparison to BMW NA.

Be careful, no i dont have a tune on the car, that was from 2 years ago when i wanted to see the stock numbers. I was waiting for Cobb but they still havent came out with a tune for the F30. Theres always something with going wrong with this car and JB4 isnt the way to go. All i have is a BMW intake and BMW still serviced my car with that on. The dealer here is family owned and not like the BIG dealerships. Replacing a motor is a log of work and time and the dealer dont make no money off it, if i pay they will feel its worth the time, thats what im thinking. I was also told that my name was taken out the system for worranty and that it was illegal for them to do that. Anyway i have BMW NA involed and a rep is here today to look at the car.I will keep yall posted. If they dont fix it that i will get another one some day

Question to OP, why wouldn't the warranty cover your, specially the engine?
Why wouldn't the dealer make money if your car is still under warranty?
I don't understand why you should pay for the repairs unless it's obvious you did something to create the problem... this whole situation doesn't make too much sense...

Dealers get paid a reduced flat rate for certain warranty work so they usually "loose" money n major warranty repairs.

A dealer voided my warranty on my SRT-4 years ago and there was nothing i could due but spend thousands to sue them.

This thread is making no sense. Why would you pay a dime for an issue you didn't cause? Especially when you don't know exactly what is wrong with the engine?

+1. From what we've been told, seems they have already decided he caused the issue, if in fact they truly "removed him" from a warranty list (I don't think that's a thing, btw. But maybe they flagged his VIN somehow).

In related news, there is so much poor spelling and grammar in this thread, it's embarrassing. How some of you guys can afford BMW's with such poor language skills (or why your parents buy them for you with obviously poor grades) is beyond me.
