Garage Door Opener - Automatic Opening Stopped Working

When I initially set up my garage door opener, the gate to my parking structure would open automatically without pressing the button on the mirror. I have had my F30 for over a year and the door automaticlaly opened 100% of the time.

It stopped working last week, so I reprogrammed it this morning. Now, I have to push the button on the mirror for the gate to open. I'm okay with this, but it was nice to just pull up to the gate and drive in.

Has this happened to anyone? I searched most of the forums and I could not locate any information relating to the door automatically opening.

Thanks

The gate opening automatically would be due to sensors controlled by the gate (magnetic, infrared, etc.) not the car.

Am I missing something here?

Going out, there is a sensor, which opens the gate when you pull up to it. Going in, you have to click the button on the remote for the gate to open. My TSX required me to push the button on the mirror to enter (so does my wife's Mini).

When I initially set up my F30, the gate would just open when I pulled up to it. When I have had a loaner, I would have to click the button on the remote for it to open.

There is no bluetooth-like/proximity sensor within the F30 that would allow for a triggering a gate or garage door without interaction. The sensors on the inside of the gate (once inside the community) usually allow for cars to leave without pressing any buttons. Coming into a gated community should require that you either use a keypad on the outside of the gate, or have your garage door opener programmed to open the gate.

If you now have to push the garage door button to exit your community, the gate sensor is not functioning. You never should have been able to enter your community without pressing the garage door button.

EDIT: Only exception would be if the gate truly had bluetooth functionality and your car was registered to it as such. Never seen that, but it would be cool.

Understand. ^ This was occurring for a year and now it has stopped. My wife and I always found it peculiar.

The HomeLink support in your car only works by pressing the button. No signal is transmitted otherwise. Your gate opening automatically is being done by something else, as the others have mentioned. Either that or your security guard really likes you and opens it for you whenever you pull up.

I promise you. It did it for a year. Every time that I pulled up.

Maybe the button on the mirror (two mirrors as I had the first replaced) was stuck.

If it were stuck you'd see the light flashing all the time.

I was being a sarcastic.

I wish that I would have recorded it for everyone.

I think we all believe you, but we also know it couldn't have been your car opening the gate (at least not telling it to open). There was something else doing it.

There couldn't have been something else. Two to six times a day, everyday for over a year? Only when it's my car and at all three of the entrances?

I have literally pulled up at 2am (after a flight home) and it opened. It never did it to a loaner. It never does it when I drive my wife's Mini.

I appreciate everyone's feedback.

It must have been a glitch. I'll tell you what though. It was fantastic whilst it lasted! It was the ultimate hands free.

Probably it was set to work similarly to this other device:
http://goo.gl/t0iKha
in this case every time I approach the exit gate (of a paid parking lot) it opens without any action of mine, but charges my bank card.

Are you sure you don't have something like this in your community? A bar code decal on one of your windows that authenticates you as an owner and auto opens the gate?

I don't. The only way to enter is with a remote control or a key fob. The key fob is used at an entry keypad, but I do not carry the fob with me (and you need to touch it to the keypad for it to work).

It must have been a long running glitch.

I told my wife about this thread last night and she started laughing and said "both of us must be crazy."

I suppose it could be a glitch and it was always broadcasting the open signal. I guess the only way to have proven that would have been to pull the fuses that the Homelink system runs off and then drive up....hoping that nothing else important ran off that fuse, lol.
