Key Fob Programming

Can anyone confirm that you can self program comfort access key fob as long as you have one working key (2013 335)? I've talked to about 8 dealerships and 6 claimed that I needed to have it programmed in-house (which would run me extra 150+) and 2 claimed that its self-programmable.

Thanks in advance.

I believe you can program it to lock/unlock the vehicle, but it will not start the vehicle. You will need to take it to a dealership to get it to start the car. If anything, call BMW Genius to confirm. Or just try programming it yourself and if it doesn't work, go to the dealership that told you that you could and complain they falsely informed you.

Interesting, Mercedes is the opposite. The new key will start the vehicle but needs to be programmed at the dealer ($65 if you bought the car there, $130 if not, both prices on top of the cost to order the new key) in order for any of the buttons on the fob to work

So I believe one of the ways some of the new Key Fobs with Comfort Access are programmed can be done by yourself. The method is:

-Take 1 registered/programmed fob and 1 unregistered/new fob to the car.
-Enter driver set with both fobs and close door.
-Hold the new/unprogrammed fob up to the steering column where it's labeled for a key to be held up to.
-While holding the key there, start the vehicle with the start button.
-Your new fob should now be programmed and registered to the vehicle.

Give that a try (if you have a new fob) and let us know how that works out for ya!

F3x's do not have a Remote Start, nor can it be programmed. That is only for cars equipped with a remote start. If the vehicle is equipped with remote start, you would click the BMW logo (lock button) on the fob three times in succession to activate the remote start.

what about closing the hatch on the Gran Coupe? My hatch doesn't seem to want to close remotely from the key fob and I'm wondering if that's possible...

That's possible only with coding.

I would be interested if this works or not because the F31 and the F10 trunks cannot close via remote unless coded in the U.S. It may be listed elsewhere and may be different regulations since yours is in Jamaica, but I'm not sure if this will work for U.S. vehicles.

ryanSTL, let us know if it works or not.

didn't work guys. the hatch opens fine with the keyfob no problem. once it's open ... nothing on the key job will get it to close. i'm hearing a little click .. but nothing happens. i'm trying a bunch of timing and sequence combinations with no luck.

Man, sorry to hear Ryan was hoping it would work for ya. Sounds like a coding difference though.

It is, just three codes and you would be good to go!

If it's used it must be wiped clean of the existing programming first (unlocked).

Do all the BMW's have comfort access? I have a 2013 F30 and would like to know what else it can do. As of now I would be happy if I didn't have to press unlock on the FOB to get into the car.
