Drove the M4 today @ BMW Seattle
I was able to get some great seat time in the new M4 today.
BMW Seattle got a couple of new M3 & M4 in and I drove the Mineral Grey M4. I got to drive it for about 45 minutes though the back roads of Mercer Island. Wow, what a treat! I think BMW did a great job with it. The sound is not disappointing at all. Love the turbo vacuum spool down noise it makes as you come to a stop. Blasted though the I-90 tunnel on the way back and the sound is AMAZING from 3500 RPM. The power band has way more torque compared to the E90/92 M3 and the response is terrific. Also loved the new fixed back seats. Was worried it wouldn't have enough adjustments, especially coming from my current F10 M5 that has a tons of adjustability, but they fit me just right. Lots of lumbar and thigh support. Originally I ordered a Mineral White 6 speed manual M3 with all options but the carbon brakes pushed the build date into September. I was hoping I could buy this car MG M4 today but unfortunately it isn't for sale and will be a demo until they get more cars in. After driving the car today, I realized 3 things: 1) I want the M4; 2) I want the DCT transmission; 3) the standard steel brakes are excellent. I tracked my E92 M3 and those brakes were not so great. But the M4 steel brakes have great feel and are getting closer to that hard, stiff Porsche feel in the pedal. If you're in the market for a new F80/F82, I highly recommend you go check out the new F80/F82s at BMW Seattle. Go see my buddy Karl Enmark, I've been buying all my BMWs from him and he's a true M enthusiast. -Chris |

Thanks for the review! It is great that BMW Seattle is keeping the launch car as demo instead of selling them right away. You are a regular customer there. I bet they won't let me drive the demo car alone for 45 minutes :-)

You can't really tell the brake's worth until you've done 5 sessions at the ridge/pacific in a row, that's when you'll know if they're really good brakes. Likely they'll be okay once you put on SS lines and rbf600 though.
I wonder if someone will show up with their M4/3 at the track this year.. |

You're right...I agree the stock brakes will not be adequate if you're going to be tracking the car regularly. But I'm impressed the pedal feel is stiffer than past M cars which I like for better pedal modulation. I'm still leaning toward carbon brakes if I can find a car with it. The car I ordered won't even start production until September. The CCB pushed production from May to September. If I can get a M3/M4 before track seasons ends, you'll see me out there Have a good one! Chris |

On the brakes, if you plan to track your M4 only 2-3 times a year then CCB should be okay however for anything more than that, I'd recommend you get the regular steel brakes and swap out for a stoptech BBK later this year. CCBs are going to be super $$$$$ when it comes time to replacement rotors and pad selection will be far more limited. Most Porsche track drivers switch to steel rotors (e.g. Carl). Even Z06 carbon owners regret getting the carbon ceramic brakes for track. My Z06 has Stoptech 380mm 6 pistons upfront and 4 at the back, with Raybestos ST43 pads and brake ducting to the rotor. I can stop my Z from 155mph down to 100 every single time at the Ridge with no over heating issues and my pads/rotors last forever (I've done over 7 days on my current pads and they're still thick!) Plus you'll be able to get 18" rims, which are NT01 / Hoosier-able! Last edited by w00tw00t; 06-22-2014 at 01:31 PM.. |

I looked at that car on Friday right after its xpel install and have an appointment for a test drive next Friday.
It is a shame that it has sunroof. I posted this already but this was hidden in their new arrivals department. So whoever ordered this car is the 1st person to take delivery in Seattle.

That's funny because of one my friend who works at Seattle said they only let serious buyers test drive it. I want to see this car in person.

You can certainly see the car in person there! The M3 was also very nice but it only has passive suspension. Didn't drive it too long but I noticed it already has a lot of squeaks, especially when the body flexes. The car has just over 150mi today. There is also a Sakhir Orange/Sakhir Orange DCT M4 on 18's that will go on display in the next couple of days. Also not for sale at the moment. |

Test drove the black M3 twice. Do not see why the steel brakes will not be adequate on track with better pads. Huge improvement over the stock brakes on the e90. Loved the heads up display so changed my order yet again. I am going to have a lot of fun with this car. Passive suspension very good and it is seriously quick.
