15k a year is only very slightly above minimum wage. Its insane to call this middle class.

Maybe 25+, but even that is very tight for most people especially in London..

My view; the working class has dropped a few rungs and is now lower working class due to imigration and the general shite that makes up a lot of this country.

Upper Class is now super upper class and lives in a parrallel world to that of the real world.

Everyone else who has a job is therefore by default middle class.

Perhaps if they stopped paying benefits to all the work shy, lay abouts and immigrants who come here cos its an 'easy ride', they'd be able to support the people who are actually making a contribution to this country.

So they're saying the average British family is middle class if the household income is £40k or more. I'd say that would hit a high proportion of the population. Prepare for more people to decide they'd be better off on benefits!

This country is totally fucked up, and whilst they're not totally to blame 'New' Labour is mainly responsible. Fortunately they have little to no chance of getting back in, unfortunately, which ever muppets succeed them won't do any better.

You're completely right, £15k a year makes me upper class without taking our lasses income into account (and I'm ceratinly not). Its a stinking pile of shite, and the sooner Brown and his bunch of incompetent fuckwits are out the better. At least we'll have someone new to slag off.

Live on your own - middle class if you earn over £15k

That's not a sensible classification at all. Traditionally the middle classes were doctors, architects, bank managers etc. Professionals with university education.

They also typically sent children to private schools, which would require an income well above £40k for a family of 4

I'd say that a middle class income would be at least £75k per year for a family of 4 (or £100k in the South East).
