Would be interesting to test a different manufacturers blades to see if it is the blades or the wiper arms themselves.

I'am very tired to go to the BMW dealer each time for this problem.
They haven't solved the smearing problem in the 5 times I went there.
So I have bought new wipers my self (Bosch aerotwin plus) and it seems to solved the problem. The smearing is totally gone

I hope it won't come back anymore.
I'will keep your informed.

I also have this issue, went through 3 sets of blades in the first 16,000 mls, been to dealers twice who claimed i must have bent the arms during the blade replacement, tossers, they then agreed to 'adjust' the arms and replace the blades and its now worse than ever and not just smearing passenger side small blade is jumping and vibrating on the window. back to dealer to shout again until they get it fixed or BMW do a recall on the arms.

Well if the Bosch ones hold for the posters above its not the arms but the Sibera made blades

I had the same problem on mine. I solved the problem by removing the wiper blade, unclip the the plastic clip from the wiper blade body and reinstall it the opposite way round. To explain better the wiper tip which was closer to the passenger side becomes closer to the windscreen pillar. Simple but it worked for me.

After 5 days of not having my car and being stuck with this clunky X3, baby girl is fixed!

According to the service manager, the BMW technician from the headquarters found the problem to be with the tension on the wiper arm, causing the wiper to lift off the window on the downward swipe. They tried the wipers after the fix and happy to say that it appears to have solved the problem.

So for anyone interested, you can have your dealer contact the BMW of Mainline, and get the fix from them. Kinda like have your people call my people sorta thing.

will keep you posted on the updates should the problem returns.
The dealer has now replaced the blades twice, and this last time around they even cleaned the windshield thoroughly to make sure there was no remnant of any contamination. They did the work yesterday and now, not even 24 hours later it is worse than ever before. This is getting very frustrating. It is unsafe to drive with the smearing and we have to keep going back to the dealer. We have now been through 3 sets of blades. So it is either the tension on the blades, the arms, or the windshield glass is defectively misshaped.

Roozybeh, would you mind sharing the name of your service advisor at Mainline?

Thanks

The blades are the problem I think.
Buy the Bosch aerotwin and maybe your problem is over, just like mine.
Almost two months now without the smearing.

This is seeming to coincide with the new service guidelines in the US, no longer covering brakes and wipers. Conspiracy?

Went to BMW 3 times and they could not do a thing... Then I researched this type of problem through other forums, and found the Trico Force replacement blade does the trick.

Purchased a 26" blade for the drivers side and now works wonders!

Sorry for the delay guys,

I go to BMW OF MAINLINE. Phone number: +1 (610) 668-2200

You can just ask for the service manager and tell them about the issue. Try asking for Joe Serock.

I have to say. Since that post I have not had any issues with wipers. We just had snow and now rain and still no issues. It appears that changing/adjusting the tension on the wipers was the key.

Had smearing on drivers side for about 6 months. Tried cleaning screen with variety of cleaners. After fitting Bosch Aero blades problem has gone. (so far...)

Yes, Trico Exact Fit or equivalent is the way to go... Bosch is not using good rubber these days-- too hard.
