Playing about on the online BMW connected drive portal and I noticed the latest maps file was available - just updated to the new 2016-01 one, 25GB worth of data! Might be worth checking if your data is due to update (mine is an Oct 15 build so it was due the update).

I cannot for the life of me find any download links on the Connected Drive portal (or anywhere else). Would you explain where it is exactly? Screenshot or direct link would be great.

I was under the impression that UK models will have OTA updates. Can't find any info on that either. Honestly, BMW websites are deliberately designed to confuse the crap out of people.

Once logged in, it takes you through to dark coloured page headed 'BMW Connected Drive Remote Cockpit'.

This is where it gets even stranger! With some trial and error I happened to click on the heading 'Auxiliary Heating/Ventilation' and it took me through to an extended page showing a load of other heading which included Manage Smartphones, Send Memo to Vehicle, Send to Car, Driver Profiles and Map Updates etc. I still couldn't get it to download the map updates but it did show one was ready? BMW really need to get this sorted but it's quite good fun having a play. If you find any other gems, let me know!!

The dark coloured webpage is supposed to resemble their mobile app. Activate aux heat/vent simply sends preconditioning command to my car. Probably because I've used the feature a couple of times before.

I can see all the send memo, driver profile, manage smartphone, etc. But no sign of any map updates. Current version that I have is 101143.3.412 (EU 2015-2A), so it's definitely not up to date!

Internet is the only available choice I have on "Store" page. Everything else is already live and activated.

I don't have extended Bluetooth either but I get the same screens as orcomma.
The only difference is I have to click on the 'Auxiliary Heating/Ventilation' script before I can see the rest of the screen options. Then when I go to Manual Map Update I see the message -
Note: The current version of the digital street map has not been recognised by this vehicle. Please check the installed map version in the navigation options in the vehicle menu of your BMW.

As with KPD it's not urgent just a bit strange!

I don't have remote services enabled either, and get to the Manual Map Update screen by clicking "Control" on the first Remote Cockpit screen

The map version offered (2016-1) is what is already installed on my car (Built 26/11/15), so no need to update yet.

My build was also Nov 15 but still can't see where I would find my current map version?

Go to Navigation, Options, version information. Should work, but given the different screens people are seeing, I wouldn't guarantee it

So I spoke with BMW customer service and they're telling me that it's a server issue on their end. They've asked me to check back in a couple of days. But I doubt it'll change anything. "Server issue" sounds like a canned answer, to be honest.

I've been checking the Connected Drive portal on an off and never seen any satnav related choices. So it's either a server issue that's been ongoing for over six months or they're bull shitting me. Can't be bothered to look into it for now. Maybe later...

Found it - thanks again. My version is same as current as well (Europe 2016/1).

You will need to get the BMW download manager either on your PC or Mac first. Then you can get the map update.

Best to check your version first: takes a while to download 25gig (even on cable) and then copy it to the usb stick. Goodness knows how long the update itself takes

Thanks - I did that but still nothing. I was wondering if the system was clever enough to know that I didn't need the update in the first place, hence the message about not recognising the current version?
Could this be an 'intelligent' BMW web page??!!

I did wonder about this. Would you have to have the engine running? If not and you just left it downloading the auto shutdown might kick in halfway through the installation?
