How good is the xDrive system?

Has anyone given the new xDrive system a real test? For Excample in bad snow conditions?

I have ordered this model but have the previous modell now.
I have never had any problems with the old system.

I am a bit worried about the new front wheel drive based system.
if you have any experience with this, please share them:-)

I tested the 225 xe active tourer before i desided to get the new x1. The xDrive system on that car was not good at all.

I just spent my first winter in Canada with the X drive system and I live in a very hilly area where some streets are 45% or more. I loved the system! Never had any slippage and drove as if I was driving in summer although at a much slower pace. The hill decent feature was great for me as I just steered the car while it controlled the braking on steep hills. I am pretty happy with the system. I hope this helps.
Cheers

For snow, mud, loose gravel handling xDrive is great. Saw some review for split traction on ice and snow and the car performed really well.

Thank you. I have been very happy with the xdrive system on my 2013 BMW X1. Just hoping the 2016 version is just as good :-)

I am also loving the hill decent feature.

@VanOrton - what was the problem with the Active Tourer's xDrive implementation?

I tried it in demanding snow conditions. My father in law is living up in the montain in Norway. What i normaly do when i am testing a car in the winter is to drive up the where they live. They have a very steep hill. In this hill i do a full stop in the steepest part, and then try do drive on from a complete stop.

The Active Tourer started sailing backwards, before it finaly understood that it needed to activate the back wheels. when it did the car made a jump forward before it got grip. it felt like the car was struggeling the rest of the hill.
From what i understand It does not realy have four wheel drive. It is a front wheel drive with an electronic motor on the back wheels.

Did the same test with my X1 2013 modell and it did the test without problems.
I am hoping the new front wheel based xDrive is just as good as the old.

That's a very good test, I'll be interested to know how the X1 handles it :-)

I'm not going to see snow until Nov. at the earliest. Unless my plan to drive to Nordkapp comes together for July/Aug in the X1.

Don't forget you need to set the car up for maximum traction in very slippery conditions - this is explained in the manual

I also have to wait until Nov/Des before i see snow again.
I donīt think you will see any snow in Nordkapp in July/aug. at least not on the road :-)
