X1 Usual/Best retrofits, mods, tips
Hello gents,
I've jumped ship from my old 2012 f20 to a 2016 X1 sdrive 1.8d. Now, as everyone here, I am looking at retrofit certain functionality that is missing. Currently I am looking at: 1. Reverse camera https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184139110951 2. Led/xenon headlights, retrofit route https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7495003-7...53.m1438.l2649 3. Passanger side mirror auto dip on reverse. Currently investigating this. 4. The cleanest way to add android auto/carplay . I don't fancy the whole, plugging the MMI into to the AUX port. Now, I know some of you will have done the above, but for the life of me I can't find some detailed guides or even partial guides. So, if someone can help with more information or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Also, I am open to your best retrofits, mods, tips. Cheers, Florin |

I retrofitted a reversing camera in my 08/2017 built x1 2.0d xdrive and am delighted with the results. The package I bought however, is only suitable for 2017 onward F48. It included full fitting instructions including video and pics. The kit used an intelligent android module, camera and wiring which plugs into car harness and modifies the display when reverse gear is selected. I bought via a company who retrofits for many Uk BMW dealers. For info, the link is https://www.in-car-install.co.uk/cat...at=0&q=Bmw+f48 My main comment to you is that I do not think the item in the eBay link you provided will fit your car. Without knowing the VIN and checking your car software (easiest way is to look at Nav map version), my best guess is that your car will have an Entrynav head unit and I suspect the kit being offered is for cars with NBT head units. I would make absolutely sure before buying. |

Hey MJE60, thanks for the information, failing to do a retrofit (which was confirmed possible by the seller) I will have too look into aftermarket solutions.

Not really a retrofit, however..
I know this isn't really a retrofit, but I find it helpful. I purchased a used OEM aspheric driver's side mirror from eBay Germany. To me, the mirror really helps to eliminate the blind spot over my left shoulder (US model). It was plug and play (auto-dimming, heated). I might not have been adjusting the mirrors properly, however I have been pleased with the new mirror (which is technically, for off-road use only).

eBay purchase
From my eBay order:
Original BMW X1 F48 F49 Spiegelglas beheizt Weitwinkel links 7377975 Seller: galter. Based in Germany, galter has been an eBay member since Jul 25, 2006 I logged into ebay.de and searched. I see galter sells a lot of BMW parts. Honestly, I was lucky to find the aspherical mirror. You will need to translate aspherical to German, and use keywords such as BMW X1, F48, Spiegelglas and whatever features you need (dimming, heated). |

My first purchase was a bin for the centre console:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It was a ten second install and hides everything nicely - unless you knew it was aftermarket, you'd never know it wasn't a factory piece. -oAk- |

One thing we have added to all our cars for the past 10 years has been a USB stick with all our music. This way we have access to all the music by the head unit all the time with no interruptions, disconnections or other failures and it integrates into traffic messages and GPS guidance.

99Oakley, that's a neat little bin. I have been looking at something like that. Thanks for the tip.
Feddersen, gotta make one of those myself but it's been a while with spotify serving everything. Cheers for the suggestion. -Florin |
