Oyster stitching mismatch?

Wondering if this is a fault at the factory or if it's just by design, but to my mind the colour of the stitching on my armrest is lighter than on the seats...everyone else have this?

what about the other seats?

the stitching is probably dirty with dye of jeans?

i had oyster seating in my 2015 x3, and its beautiful color but it gets dirty very quick.

every week i had to wipe down driver seat

Definitely not, the stitching on the seats (including backrests and back seats) are all the darker shade, and the same shade. the armrest is all the same shade and lighter - almost white.

They appear to have matched the armrest stitching with the stitch on the black leather around the gearlever... Agree that it looks odd

That's just the photo - the gear stitching is the same colour as the seats.

I actually am starting to wonder if they put the wrong armrest on without the contrast stitching option (Realoem states that the armrest is shared with the 2er ST and GT)

Worst case i go over it with a grey felt pen

DUH! Checked mine and it is the same. Have had my car since October last year and never noticed it until now!! It is going to take a good couple of days before I get it out of my system!

Back of the front seats has both:

Oooh i haven't checked every seam on the seats too! i might have similar. let me check and get back!

I still reckon a grey felt tip marker would fix it right up, if it was the right shade (plenty of practice needed ha)

OK I checked, mine is also light on that back corner of the seats, and the central section on the base (where the extendable thigh support would be - mine are the non sport seats). It appears that the light and dark stitching are perfectly mirrored between passenger and driver, so maybe this is intentional? Maybe that's what they mean by "contrast stitching" - two contrasting colours of stitching

I think it's meant to highlight the profile of the seats and its important features (e.g. Shoulder lines, side cushions, etc.). Not so important parts like the stitches on the back have the same colour so that they don't attract attention. Armrest is probably meant to look like one piece, which is why the stitches aren't dark.

That's how I'm going to explain it to anyone who dares mentioning it to me. If they kept pushing, I'd say that I customised it like that because I liked it like that!!!

Sounds like a good plan.

Mine is now released to the transport company from the factory so it will be 2-3 weeks before I can check what I have got - I have specced Oyster on standard seats.

Mixed two-color stitching is intentional on ALL the X1 leather colors -- you can see it in most interior photos. Stitch color is mixed all over the seat surfaces. Black leather has black and light-gray stitching. The M Sport Black with blue stitching is actually a mix of blue and black stitching.

I suppose that it's more "stylish" and less boring that way, but I don't really understand the need for light stitching on dark leather, or dark stitching on light leather. What is so attractive about stitches that they should stand out and draw your attention?

It's just a bit of contrast for "style" and "design". FWIW, the mocha leather interior has darker stitching on the armrest, and a lighter stitching on the seats.

It is just "styling" I guess. The eye is drawn to the seats front face.
I like the blue stitching on the Oyster and the light grey stitching on the black.
I really did not notice the whitish grey stitching on my Oyster seats until it was pointed out. Therefore, I think that was a BMWs design team idea and that what was used when designing the interior. I actually think it looks good

Definitely in the eye of the beholder

Probably the most controversial bit for me is that the rear centre headrest has dark stitching and light stitching next to each other.

Designers eh

Got ours with Mocha interior yesterday, the stitching is exactly the same pattern as yours...
