USB Thumb Drive Size
Has anyone tested if a 64gb thumb drive will play music in the X1? I have a 32gb that works flawlessly and would like to upgrade to a 64gb. Any advise or links to other threads that may already be discussing this topic would be great!
Thanks! |

I would think it would work. I have a 256GB in my 2012 F30 that works fine.

In terms of physical size, I recommend the Sandisk Ultrafit drive which only sticks out about 1/4-inch from the socket, lessening the chance of accidentally bashing it and damaging the drive/socket. If you look at "USB Stick and Album Art on display" on page 2 of this forum and scroll down through the replies you'll find a photo of it. I use a 16GB drive which is good for about 4,000 music tracks.

I wished BMW audio system supported ReplayGain tags.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReplayGain I'm adjusting the volume level all the time, particularly going from modern to Classic albums. |

I've read some reports about these small Sandisk USB drives overheating, has anyone found them to be hot when they remove them? I was thinking of getting a Samsung USB 3.0 MicroFit as I haven't seen the problem reported with it.

My 64GB Sandisk gets warm when plugged in (Even if not being read or written to), but so far no issues (touch wood!).

I have a 32 GB USB 3.0 slim fit Sandisk stick and when I play MP3s in my X1 it skips while playing music every 5-10 seconds. It is also pretty warm when I plug it out. Music from stick plays normally and correct on my laptop. Anyone had this problem?

I have a 64GB Sandisk USB 3.0 drive filled with about 40GB of music, and there are no issues although it did take a long time (about 20 minutes) to index them all so I could search by artist, genre etc.
Biggest gripe over this is that every time I remove it to add a new song I purchased, it has to re-index the whole thing. And I only ever listen to about a hundred songs - maybe playlists on smaller flash drives are the way forward in future Remember when formatting to use FAT32 not NTFS. There's a utility that can format large drives in FAT32 here http://www.verbatim.com/index/search...orm_submit.y=0
