Just how much more is needed to clear? 1/2" (18" wheel)? 1" (19)? Disappointing, because that wheel has a great hub profile. Very unlike others. |

I think yes but marginally. It's not substantially wider than the other jack and the problem is the side to side stability rather than front to back. Important thing is to jack on a solid level surface, engage hand brake, use wheel stops (or a rock) then jack up. Remember to loosen the bolts before jacking.

Can't say. Maybe 18" but 19" for sure. Yeah disappointing, but I'll just keep and use it.

Audi/VW wheels look ok until you realize their holes are 57.1mm, while the X2 requires 66.6. OTOH, the 18" spare BMW wheels are spec'ed for the X5/E70 and have a 74.1 mm hole. I guess we can hope BMW stops shipping runflats and makes a proper-clearance wheel available. Yeah, right. Quote:

I put my winter set on today, so I took the opportunity to test the Mercedes spare wheel even tho that I am still waiting for the tire.
Sharing... It fits and it clears the caliper on the side. It's not completed yet, I am still waiting for: - washers to convert conical seat to ball seat - longer bolts (oe is 28mm I think, I'll need either 43mm or 45mm) - spare tire. About the tire, the wheel width is 5.5". I planned to go with a tire 155/70R19. However, the cargo space is too tight. I don't think it will fit, unless I have to remove the mat under it. I hope that I won't have issues to put 135 tire on 5.5" wheel. Same for the diameter, the space in the trunk is a bit less than 27". The 155/70 tire is 27.5". I'll go with 135/70R19. Its diameter is 26.4". Fingers crossed. I should of go with the Mercedes 19x4.5 to but with the offset of 35mm, I was not sure if it would fit. I'll keep you posted when I'll have the tire. Special order takes 3 to 4 weeks. |

Mercedes and Audi bolts have 1.5 thread. BMW is 1.25. I found a website that sell the M14x1.25 conical seat. But the max length they have is 39mm. Based on my measurements, 43mm would be ok. But I want to wait for the washer to confirm the real thickness. |

look closely at my pic 12'o clock of the wheel near the carpet, there is a cut out i made for item 8, its bolted between the 2 carpet hinges but it makes installing the spare wheel impossible. design flaw? two years on i still cant figure out how it will work, since the bolt is blacked out in the parts catalog, maybe #8 should just be inserted onto the slot but i ended up returning it to my dealer.

Oh, that arrow on the diagram lower right is indicating the forward direction in the car. Weird bracket indeed!
So does the long wingnut bolt go through the center of the cover, and hold the whole assembly to the floor? The bracket seems completely unnecessary if so. |

I have a question for those of you who have put the spare wheel in the trunk...
Did you have to remove the mat or kind of carpet in the bottom to make the wheel fit? I did not want to force anything, so with this mat removed the wheel fit correctly. The tire I have is 135/70/19. It is the same tire width as the 17" spare wheel that I saw from other posts. |

I believe the mat is not there in cars with factory spares, so it is entirely possible that the fit will be tight. The diameter and profile of your 19" tire may put things over the edge?
Here's the 17-inch BMW wheel with 135-90/17 compact, it has about 1/2" of clearance front-to-back: Last edited by //TMT; 11-04-2020 at 09:12 AM.. |

You are probably right about my 19" wheel profile, but not due to the diameter, but more to its thickness. The 135/90/17 has a theorical diameter of 26.6". 135/70/19 is supposed to be 26.4". I think there are still a bit clearance in the depression area. But it's the thickness of the tire that blocks the wheel to go further in that depression. I am just surprised because I thought the same 135 tire width should be the same. I guess it's the wheel width of 5.5" that changes the shape of the tire a bit. Another question, does your spare tire have to be inflated at 60psi too? When I tried the tire alone, it went in no problem. This could be another reason. I could deflate the tire a bit, but I don't want to have an air pump and the hassle to pump it when I need it. Last edited by trnguyen; 11-04-2020 at 01:07 PM.. Reason: spelling |

//TMT: that is the trunk of an X2M5? and that spare will fit over the brakes? Front or rear? This is a BMW wheel and would work on the M35. I am leasing but this maybe in my future soon. I always get a little nervous on longer drives. don't even need a jack if AAA will come and change the tire although a jack and lug wrench is a handy thing to have
Thanks for this picture |

This Mercedes spare wheel fits over the front brakes. You can see the closer picture in my post #49 above (I tried it before I received the tire). Last edited by trnguyen; 11-04-2020 at 01:38 PM.. |

So far, this is the list of what I needed for this spare wheel:
- Mercedes W164 spare wheel 19x5.5. I bought it for $175 USD on Ebay without the tire. Most of them has the tire with it, but it won't fit. Example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/07-11-Merce...AAAOSwDHNfA101 There are some 19x4.5 Mercedes wheel too. I think they are better suited for the 135 tire width than mine. - Kumho tire 135/70/19 I am from Canada, so I ordered from here: https://www.wheelwiz.ca/tires/kumho/...-spare/2158963 Probably ~$105 USD. - 5x Wheel Lug Ball Seat Conversion Washers For Conical Bolts ~ $1 each. I ordered from here: https://www.urotuning.com/products/w...=8385621426231 - 5x M14x1.25 Extended Length Wheel Bolts (45mm) $2.59 each. Example: https://www.bimmerworld.com/Extended...Bolts-M14.html The bolts are in the mail, I am still waiting for it. Based on my measurement (to compensate for the thicker wheel and about 2mm for the washer), it should have the exact same depth in the car as the stock bolts. I still have to buy the jack. For the wrech, I plan to put in the trunk the 24" breaker bar and the 17 mm socket that I use to swap my summer/winter wheels. Last edited by trnguyen; 11-04-2020 at 01:39 PM.. Reason: formatting |

The 17" BMW wheel mentioned earlier fits only on the rear axle. In the front, it does not clear the brakes. The centerbore is correct. If I have a flat, and it's in front, I will remove the corresponding rear wheel, install the spare, and move the wheel to the front. Yes, it's extra work. No, I don't ever expect to have to do it. |

As an alternative to trnguyen 's possibly superior solution, here's what I ordered for mine:
17" BMW spare wheel from ECS Tuning https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...l/36116851507/ $67 with free shipping 135-90/D17 Kumho compact spare from Tire Rack https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...rtnum=39R7KHV2 $94 free shipping Scissors jack from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Xinner-Univer.../dp/B07NVBDNXM $23 (I like this one because it has a cast drive head not stamped, solid crank not stupid folding, and a rotating lift point to fit the frame pockets I already had the lug wrench (17mm bolt heads). Had my tire guy supply the stem and mount the tire, whole project $185. |

Sorry. I thought the question was for me.
I would not say mine is a superior solution. It's more about my lazyness. I just don't want to swap the wheels if I have a flat with the front wheel when it's like minus 10 Celsius outside. I wish that I will not have to use it, but knowing the road conditions where I live, I want to be safe. |
