okay, i picked up the car just now from the paint protection film installer's shop but it's in the garage right now, so i'll pull it out at some point over the weekend and take pictures again.

welp, folks, this is how the car settled. i'm really pleased with the results, actually! the ride is identical because i guess the ride height is pretty identical too, haha. no, but the gap over the rear tires has been minimized to a significant degree and that's what was bothering me the most.
looking at the car in pictures is really pleasing -- it's only when i see other m35is with the 20" wheels that i become totally jealous. haha. the car looks like the luxury hot hatch of my dreams. <3 i had to take the pictures of the car facing the landscaped slopes which are a bit parched at the moment due to water restrictions in california, but anyway, i had to take the pictures from this vantage point and not the reverse because my super nosy neighbor was poking around in his front garden. annoying af guy who wants to know the ins and outs of my life.

Very, very nice. But it looks like more than a 30mm drop! When your neighbor becomes scarce, I'd love to see the same shots as before, to truly compare.
So, the ride is really unchanged, from stock? Surely, it must feel more planted? And, wait, you see other M35i's? I'm not sure I can count the ones I've seen on one hand! |

haha, no, i mean the m35is that i see online. i haven't seen another m35i in the wild which was what drew me to the car in the first place.
and the car does feel more like a car, but the ride quality is unchanged if that makes any sense. i feel much more like i'm driving a sports sedan but with the same ride comfort as before. the ride is in no way harsh. overall, worth it! 10/10!

the 2series GC is SO ugly. people are buying that car for the badge and nothing more. a cheap way into the brand. i guess the same can be said for the x1 and x2 in general as well, but our car is a total unicorn.

so, i decided to write here instead of starting a new thread but i'm annoyed that this is really the only customization that's aesthetic that one can really do to the car. there is really no aftermarket support for this vehicle and don't get me wrong, it's a great looking vehicle especially in m35i form, but i'd like there to be more aftermarket or even factory support for various customizations that one would easily find for models x, y and z. so far the only things that i've done to the car are added the jb4, tinted the front windows to match the rear, added the 20" oem 721m wheels to replace the oem 715m 19" wheels, and added these lowering springs.
there should be different spoiler options, or different side skirts or something elegant from the factory or the aftermarket community and even though this car sells really poorly in north america, i thought that the sales figures were decent in the EU. i'm annoyed not necessarily because i'd opt for all of the options out there if they were to exist, but because those options simply aren't available at all.

I had been looking for a front lip.. only found one in the UK and was out of stock with the pandemic. You got me thinking again and I see this 3d design here. A little pricey, but if it's real CF then it's worth it.
https://ind-distribution.com/collect...rbon-front-lip Oh interesting.. it's on ALI express for way cheaper. It seems to be ABS plastic according to the description. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1000...68984edbmo5T6L |

Just be very careful, because if you hit something like a curb you can’t fix carbon fiber, the weave won’t be presentable, then you’ll have to paint the whole thing black, and lose the effect of the carbon fiber… Don’t ask me how I know.… Did it on a vette , big mistake…

i feel like gratuitous use of carbon fibre where weight really isn't important, like on an x2, is super dumb. i also feel like the trend of having carbon fibre all over the place is passé.
to each his/her own, though. i would not spend anything on anything carbon fibre for both of the reasons above. still, it's frustratingly impossible to find anything for this car.

You cant have both, a unicorn nobody else has and an aftermarket.
Unless it’s a hyper car. |

i know!!!
but it's not a unicorn in europe! so it's kinda weird because you see these things much more frequently within the EU. anyhow, can anyone make any projections on whether these would work on the x2 since it says that they're compatible with the current generation x1? https://theismotorsport.com/bmw-illuminated-door-sills/

I drove an X3M on a mini track this week. It was stock and not the competition. 90K sticker. It definitely was not as agile as the X2. With JB4 on X2M35I compared to X3M stock it honestly seemed and felt like a wash. I did like a little more space but was more comfortable in the X2. Definitely a unicorn.
I sat in a M235i and felt like I was in a Civic. It was meh to me. Would buy another X2M35i over this vehicle. The only future BMW I would get would be an X3M competition and have it tuned. However, I could never afford nor would do that. I would rather go to some other companies platform. Now the 3 and 5 series variants are nice but overpriced IMO as well. That and kinda have played the sedan game long enough to no longer be interested in it. |

after this car, i'm going back to the sedan/coupe world -- i already miss them. i'm really interested in the audi s4 and also the lexus lc500 which are two completely different cars, but both totally awesome.
also, your thoughts on the x3m are reiterated by that member who wrote a comparison between the x2 m35i and the x3m a while back.
