Fullscreen Carplay

Just got fullscreen installed on my 2018 MSport by Bimmer-Remote. Fantastic people. Installed remotely, fairly quickly. Would totally recommend.

I originally coded it with BimmerCode but parts of the screen, the touch would not work and it was a little grainy. Now it’s perfect.

Thanks for this post, just had kubax86 update my car this morning and I'm super happy. Real fast process and it works like a charm.

How was the process?

Reading the notes on their website:

"After purchase you will receive a software to download. After downloading the software we will book a remote session for you. Our technician will connect remotely and he will flash your headunit and activate Fullscreen mode."

will this affect the OTA updates for the navi?

for $60 it might be worth it to make carplay fullscreen.

I have an 2019 M35i like you (I think)... And I think you have Bimmercode....

I did it myself with Bimmercode to put CarPlay fullscreen:
Bimmercode Expert Mode in the Head Unit section
3000 HMI
CarPlay full screen = aktiv

I did that way too but it just stretches the screen out and is pixelated. The touch calibration is off too, I wasn’t able to press anything on the screen, had to use the dial. Getting it coded correctly is the way to go.

Weird. Mine looks fine and the touch works correctly.

Perhaps, it has something to do with the resolution. I saw this setting from someone else post.

I’ll try it with bimmercode. Gotta find the dongle.

Thank you!

Did it. The right 1/3 of the screen isn’t working for touch but i rarely use the touch anyway so this works just fine! Touch works on the left 2/3 of the screen.

Thanks again!

Stretched out when you have it set to the correct resolution means that your infotainment system firmware is too old to accept the setting and needs to be updated by a dealer or 3rd party (this is not the same as the software you get on the BMW website)

It’s stretched but after playing with it all the touch functions work if you touch to the left a little. Basically the buttons still react correctly if you press where the buttons are when not full screen.

Waze directions won’t show up on the hud since my car is old but the factory nav stuff still shows up in the hud.

Ie press here for heart

Thanks chowser51 for trying with bimmercode. I have bimmercode, but I couldn't live with the stretched graphics and touch issues. I reached out to bimmer-remote with my VIN to clarify which offering I would need for my vehicle (2020 x2 M35i). They replied quickly with this-- "Firmware upgrade for Entrynav2 / WAY + Fullscreen" ($159). Before I pull the trigger, is this something my dealer would be able to do? I was wondering if anyone has done this through a US BMW dealer. I'd rather not bring it up with my service advisor unless I know it is something they typically do.

Yes a dealer can update the firmware and it will fix this, but you can't ask them to update it for this feature, you need to go in and say that

I know because that's what they did on my 2019, after they updated it, I reset it in bimmercode and it worked properly.

Sorry for the delay to reply, busy week at work.

I never asked the dealer to update my firmware specifically. They must have it done at some point.
When I tried Bimmercode, it worked right away.
I am Canada so I assumed that in the US we are always on the same firmware and get updated almost at the same time. It seems not...

That looks pretty awesome, I always thought it was weird that CarPlay only used 2/3 of the display

I'm waiting for my ENET OBD cable to arrive then I'm definitely getting this coded

Does anyone know what firmware version to check for, as a minimum that will fully support Bimmercode to allow full operation in a 2019, and not how it was working in posts 11 & 13?

Thanks. Went through all idrive menus and didn't see anything close to that format. Is it something that pops once you attempt Bimmercode, or is there another way to check?

I found 2 different ways to check:
  1. Use the bimmer-tech.net site with your VIN #
  2. Export the driver profile to USB, open in Notepad++ or similar and look for i-step, after the update I found the following: <i-step>F056-22-03-580</i-step>
