Road Noise

I have had X2 for a week, my only concern is the excessive road noise and lack of insulation.

It has stiff ride, but I expected that

Yeah, they are relatively noisy, especially if you have the 20" wheels. A change to go-flat tires will help a bit.

I have 19s. Once I switched to goflats, the ride and noise improved.

If you don't like the noise level in the X2 don't get inside an Audi Q3 or Q5. My X2 is way quieter on the inside than either of the Q3s we've owned (& wife still drives one now) & much quieter than the Q5s I test drove back in December.

My X2 is running on RF's, but 18" rubber as well. Agree with above, non-RFs are normally far more quiet than RF's. Likewise, tires with more sipes are more noisy, & typically all-seasons are more noisy vs summer tires.

Thinking of moving to go-flats for this exact reason. Do folks carry a spare tire in this case? a kit? AAA?

I built a spare tire kit and only take it with me when I go on long trips. If I'm around town, I just leave it at home and if I get a flat, I have my kid bring it to me.

No. Plug kit & can of fix a flat. Maybe a small battery powered air compressor. Then roadside service if ever needed as a safety net.

I've had 1 "2-second blowout" in the last 10-15 years. Normally it's a slow leak from a nail, screw etc. In those cases there's generally time to air it up & make it to a tire shop.

The probability of getting stranded from a true 'blowout' is super super low IMHO. To each his/her own though.

Agreed! I've never been stranded with a flat in 40 years of driving! Had plenty of screws & nails in tyres over the years but these have always caused a slow puncture enabling me to get home! I always carry a compressor in the car for re-inflating if it's a long way home! I'm not even sure if a modern tyre will actually 'blow out', but someone may put me right on that!

There's always a chance you could hit something on the road & cause a an immediate failure (like slice a sidewall), but the odds of that happening are extremely rare. That kind of thing has happened to me 2-3 times in over 40 years of driving, but no joke I'd be surprised if I have logged less than a million miles of driving in my life.

There's already so little storage space in these cars I just can't take most of that up with an extra tire that 99% probability I'll never need.

Yeah famous last words... I have never had a problem in 25 years.. but in winter 2020 I hit a pothole maybe 3 miles from home to bad it put such a large cut in my winter tires I lost all pressure. The problem being even if I called my wife she wouldn't have been able to lift a tire out of my tire rack, nor dig through my stuff to get my floor jack out. I went with the spare tire option now. It's weird because it's the maximum "default" size, yet the calculations show that the rolling diameter is off from the factory size. It cost me $220 for the tire with the rim from ECS (pre mounted) $7 from the screw to hold it down. $15 for a compact lug wrench $20 for a scissor jack. Now I'm good to go! (Plus I do have the fix a flat kit/pump that didn't do squat for the huge hole I put). This summer coming back from a 5 hr road trip with the kids in the minivan I actually had a tire completely blow out on the highway for the first time ever! Scary as heck.. but I did have the spare tire on the minivan, and limped it at 65mph for the next couple of hours. Boy does it suck when highway speeds at 65 you're still a turtle in the slow lane, but I wasn't going to risk another blowout with a fully loaded van so far from home.
