The designation M35i almost sounds like a 6 cylinder, although I realize that is unlikely on this platform.

A manual transmission for the US-version X1 M35i would be a excellent option.

Nothing X 4 door coupe about this at all.
It looks more like the next generation of F20 to me

From the picture, side profile looks a bit similar to MB GLA.

Limitations on a shorter wheelbase give the vehicle a more condensed look which the X4 has in this current cycle. So the decision was to make it a lower roofed SAV without the many compromises of completely lowering the roof.
The next X4 (G02) is slightly longer therefore allowing a further stretch on the roof line making it less condensed and more in proportion like the X6.

I cannot begin to describe how much I hate these stupid "coupé" 4x4s, like the X4/X6 and GLE/GLC Coupé.

Hopefully, BMW will offer no special treatments for the X2. I'd be really annoyed if they limited the rumoured performance versions (135i or M variant) only to the X2. Thankfully, that hasn't been the case with the X3/X4 and X5/X6.

p.s. Larson renders on AutoBild have always been OTT and inaccurate. I wouldn't be surprised if the X2 didn't look anything like these two renders.

I still think it looks like a Xdrive version of the next gen F20

Not saying that's a bad thing. Just that BMW needs to come up with something a little more Rad for the new gen of SAV coupe style buyers.

Perhaps two doors would have allowed for the flow down sloped back common amongst the X4, X6 set to work properly.

This design looks more like a competitor for the Merc GLA

Scott said above there will be a M35i XDrive for X2 and X1

I think that the 35i will not be the 6 but a blown 4 as the X1 chassis is not suited to a straight 6.
(similar to what Merc is doing now)

Intresting.
I though it would look closer to the Evoque than this render does.
That car is selling like hot cakes, and has a great presence on and off the road.
Bmw need to give the X2 kinda the same treatment, give it more personality.
the F48 is pretty boring, although a lot better than the E84.
As for engines, it uses the Aisin trannie, along side a cross mounted engine, which means 3 and 4 cylinder engines, so the 35i badge means a 4 banger north of 300 hp probably.
Now, will we see a convertible of this car, like the Evoque

The G21 would offer the same driving feel as the G20 while offering more cargo capacity. This just look like an X1 with less cargo space. What the point of the X2 after all?

I just hope I doesn't look like the X1 in the front end, like in that rendering. IMHO, that was a really big mistake on the X3/4, and X5/6 on the current generation. First gen X6 was easily recognizable from the X5 in any angle, making it look way sportier, and not just a useless X5, like the one we have now.

Can they really package a transversely mounted straight six in there? If not, it has no business being called 35i.

I am glad to hear the M35i is coming to the X1 (and I suppose the X2, but I am waiting to see more). Scott -- Tell us about the engine!
