exhaust pipe soot build up

Hi been having this issue of soot build up on one of the pipe of exhaust on X1 2016 F48 25i (Petrol)- its been like that since we bought the car and I have brought to the service center attention on few different occasions but they have said its normal.
Question is - IS it normal?

It's normal. One of the pipes has a flap that opens after about 3.5k rpm I believe. So the one mainly closed looks clean and the other is covered in black unburnt fuel. It's a pain to clean off but you can if it bothers you that much. Im not 100% sure but I believe you can pull off the tips of the exhaust if you want have better access to cleaning them.

I don't mind the black unburnt fuel as long as its normal. Im concerned about down the track they saying I need to spend $$$$ to fix this issue.

It's annoying to keep clean to sure. I've replaced my tips twice and the second time just decided to put the black chrome tips on it. That way the soot isn't as visible at least, haha.
