Potential New Owner - few questions
Hi,
I have reserved a 2015 F48 118d Sdrive and subject to all being well, mine next week. Not new to BMW, I have a F32 which I love. This F48 is for my wife as the family is growing. I’ve had a look on sticky’s but could you tell me if anything specific to look out for on the 118d ? Haven’t test driven yet. As the 118d is just the detuned 120d, is it just map update ? I have the 8.8” screen in my 428i and hoping to retrofit one in the X1. Is this a straight swap ? Don’t happen to have the part number ? Would this require any other changes to equipment Do you have the part number for the larger I drive controller too ? Looking forward to discussing things further. Right this minute I’d say go Japanese, they don’t breakdown and are more reliable. Customer service is much better and they seem to value the customer.

They both can be done, albeit the latter is a lot more expensive and intensive and you will probably need to code the idrive to your car and the cars dme or ecu for them to all work together and get full functionality. You may also need to buy different A/C or radio so that the idrive fits because they may be different between the two. There are some diys I've seen on e82 forum and 3 series where It has been successfully done but it is a lot of work. |

X1's are imported with iDrive and a screen by BMW UK. Non without, so I presume the OP is hoping to fit a larger screen.
