Idrive reboot update

Car was in the dealers last week for open hart surgery, for the idrive. After a 2 day stay and a lot of debate, they ran the diagnostics check, fortunately idrive hardware was ok but software was scrambled for no reason. Ended up having to pay diagnostics fee £129 but avoided the £160 fee the dealer wanted to charge for update. BMW agreed to cover the cost and the dealers goodwill. Also had the obligatory brake fluid change (second) £89. I said I'd never pay dealer price for this but took it on the chin.

Good to hear. Thanks for this follow-up message.

Reboot the iDrive Unit

Is there a way to restart the iDrive Headunit so it does a fresh boot cycle, like when you first get into the car?
Any key press combo?
Cheers,

Not sure about the iDrive in the X1 but you could try it the way it works on the G05 X5 and see if it works.. .. Pls let us know if it worked or not

Yeah, just hold down the power button / volume knob until it reboots. Can also redownload the idrive software from the bmw website and update via USB if needed.

Does not work on this incarnation of iDrive (Hybrid version 6). I have tried it before and tried it again this morning and I have the latest software for X1.

Note. The X1 does not have the complete iDrive 6. It is a hybrid version. Just ask Bimmertech.

Watch this video. It might help. Depends on what you want to do.

Ugh, that's terrible, you lose all your personal settings?!? At least that is the way I took it. All he wants to do is a reboot, is there no way aside from what's shown in the video?
There is another type of reboot on iDrive "7" where you hold the volume knob longer, IIRC, like just over 60 seconds instead of 30. I don't recall the details as to how its different from the 30 reboot but has anyone tried that on the X1? I'd try just about anything before having to go through all the settings again and reload my personal pref's.

As stated above. I tried it this morning. It does NOT work.

So, my model year is 2017, i have the ENTRYNAV system.

I confirmed that holding down the power button for 15sec. restarts the iDrive system, (boot logo restart).
Thanks for that.
I'm not sure how some of these other systems do it, but this is what i found.
Cheers,

Power button? Which one do you call the power button?

Ha, that's a good point...!
The volume/mute button for the iDrive unit.
The one circled in your post.
Dunno why I called it the power button, as it really just mutes the audio.

Some models. Mine is a 2020 LCI 2.0i M Sport, do not do this. So if you are a UK person/forum member you might well find this does not work for you.

Mine is the head_unit ENAVEVO, and when I first turn on the car ignition (press the start button), it actually shows the logo you state. I would postulate that it is a clean boot at that point, so no need for the function of pressing the volume button stated above.

Thanks, that's good information to know.
It must be the LCI head-unit in the UK that's different.

There are times when you shut down the car, ignition, but the iDrive stays on, even after leaving the car off.
In this case, after coding or such, i like to perform a hard restart. (make sure the codings take effect)

All knowledge gives power to understand.
Cheers,

My iDrive screen is black. It comes and goes intermittently.
