BMW X1 2018 drivetrain problem
Hi all,
First time posting here I have just bought my first BMW, an X1 automatic with 36000mls on the clock about 3 months ago, I’ve done around 4000mls on it, love it, but now also have the jerky gear change problem (sometimes a big jerk) which started last week, going from 2nd to 3rd it seems, went away next day, and started yesterday and now won’t go away… I’ve tried the hold down the gas pedal for 5 secs thing mentioned here, but the orange engine management light still coming on… also about an hour ago, it struggled to get into reverse. Typical it would happen at the weekend when the garages are closed I’m due to go a trip on Monday for 3 days but thinking of cancelling it now till I get it seen to. Any help, ideas, thoughts etc very much appreciated… Cheers, |

Hi there,
As you read, I have the same issue. So yours is also a petrol engine? I did a full system update, but the problem persists. So I'm asking BMW to make a full diagnosis of several parts, such as the spark plugs, the acceleration body, the CCV/PCV (Crankcase-Ventilation), the fuel pump, the air sensor, the transmission and its mounting, etc. As you know, it could be many things, and I have no guidelines here. So that's why I'm trying to list all parts that could be related to my problem. But it can't be a coincidence; it sounds like a common problem. We just need to narrow the search. Quote:

Oh, I see. So you may have an EGR issue. You should read the thread again because they talked a lot about diesel engines.
This only applies to petrol engines and, as Peter_R mentioned, is more like a placebo effect than a real solution.

To change them, you need to disassemble the clean air intake (from the air filter to the turbo), and then use a special BMW tool to remove and install it, at least according to ISTA manuals. See attached pdfs for more info.

As far as I know, the EGR is only on F48 diesel engines.

Unfortunately, no. I had a similar discussion here: https://f48.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2031617
Another user's X1, was diagnosed with excessive (negative) pressure on the crankcase. What's next to me is replacing the O2 sensors; then vacuum leak test; then crankcase pressure test.

Thespido,
I shall be interested to hear how this goes for you. Presumably your dealer will run diagnostics on the transmission. My 2016 F48 1.8D M Sport with 60k miles was diagnosed as failed gearbox and is currently in for overhaul - not by BMW I hasten to add. |
