BMW X1 2017 - jerking on slow acceleratio / low rpm's

Hello this is my first post as well as first BMW and I have a small problem with my car so I would ask for any advice or suggestion

I have a 2017 2.0d X1 xdrive with 15 000 km on the clock and the car has developed a fault where, if your cruising gently (on low RPM) and then gently accelerate the car hesitate and than sometimes jerk before it pulls away.
also this started suddenly just few day ago and there is no any jerking or hesitation in higher RPM.

thanks

I had a similar problem with my 2017 28i and it turned out that the oxygen sensor needed replacing. Once that was done it was back to normal.

Could be many things, but try this:

Steps...

1) hit start button once to turn on power (Don't start the engine)
2) then press the accelerator down to the floor for 5 sec
3) then hit start button once to turn off power
4) then remove foot from accelerator
5) then wait for 2 minutes
4) then start the engine like normal and see if that helps with the jerk and acceleration hesitation

I have a very similar problem with x28i. The car is currently at the dealership for troubleshooting.

Does this cause a reset of some kind in the engine?

It just resets the throttle

When this happens, dos the gear box shift up and down?

For two weeks, mine was shifting up and down at low rpms, or when coming to a junction / slow traffic etc. It got really bad this week and became jerky as it found a gear it was happy with. Booked the car in and it then come up with engine fault light on the dash, as my appointment was 3 weeks away, BMW tech came to the house found that the fault was a stuck / broken egr valve. He replaced this with a new and revised unit, on my drive and the car is back to normal. My car is m sport x drive 18d auto.

I went to my car dealer and they performed detailed inspection of car and found that whole problem is due to transmission, esspecialy in shifting from first to second gear, second to third gear.
Therefore they got approval to change and install whole new transmission.

still waiting for the car so wish me luck

Jerking transmission on low speed

My wife's car has exactly the same issue, her car is 2016 18d (UK) with 23k millage. Always happens when driven on low speed between (20 - 30 mi) and when it is about to slowdown then you suddenly accelerate and that's when the car does tiny jerking (it like trying to change from gear 2-3 then back 3-2) but its absolutely fine on any other speed/ gear.
I booked an appointment in two weeks time and I hope its not going to be a big job

Hi, I had the same issue and brought it into the dealer and this is what they found:
Lower engine mount bracket is contacting engine oil pan mounting bushing has moved to one side of the bracket.
Raised engine and examine right engine mount, rubber at mount cracked.

Not sure what caused this (maybe faulty workmanship combined with the fact that I was rear ended a week ago making it worse?). The hesitation/jerky feeling is gone now.

That's interesting on my first service in march, they spotted my rear engine mount had slipped the rubber from its frame.

EGR Valve

BMW confirms that the EGR Valve is faulty and need replacing and also do a re-programming for the transmission.
Will see if this will fix the issue.

Sounds like reprogramming of the transmission is key here. I was able to get better response when I was set to sport transmission.

Unhappy X1 2010 xdrive jerking

Hello Everyone, this is my first post on this forum. I have 2010 BMW X1 with X-Drive (auto transmission).

I see similar issue where the car gives a jerk at lower gears (I can feel the jerk specifically when the gear changes -- like a small thud).

A little history on car:-
  • The front 2 tyres & rear tyres are not of same brand
  • I recently changed the brake pads (both rear & front)
  • the car has about 55,000 miles on it
  • I went to local BMW dealer, & they said that the front drum and disc are going out of sync which could cause the issue, I don't agree with them because the time when I see this issue, there is no brake applied.
  • I called the place from where I changed the brake pads - as per him, it could be an issue with brake calipers which have lost calibration, hence, the brakes are not getting apart properly and causing jerk - again, not sure why the issue occurs at lower gears?? - I don't agree.

I'm totally newbie to cars - I have read few forums which point out to issue with engine firing, valves going bad, steering issue?

I'm lost & already spent quite a bit of money (showing at 2 places) to understand the issue. Can anyone help me?

Yours is an earlier E series X1; this is the forum for the current F series and they're quite different vehicles so it might be best to post your query in the E series forum for best advice.

The car was fixed. They replaced the EGR and did a reprogramming.

I never had a faulty light on so they did say that the EGR was causing the issue and maybe it was at an early stage which didnt trigger the light!!

It drives OK now. I need to take it back though as they need to fix a plate or something that they had to order desperately!.

I started experiencing exactly the same power loss issues as the OP a few weeks ago, and it's been becoming gradually worse.
Yesterday evening, the car went through a crazy five-second period of conitinually trying to change gear and losing power before a drivetain error popped up and it reverted to limp mode to get me home.
This morning the car struggled to start, and cut out a few times before it finally started but again showed the drivetrain error and went straight to limp mode. It's booked in with the dealer for the week after next.
