Yeah, that did come across my mind (once). But now that you mention it again I'll see how that will work out once I have it in my hands.

Thanks for the reminder!

I kinda am wavering on 'stealth' at this point because I do have a radar detector hanging off my mirror and a dash cam as well.

One more thing isn't going to change this at this point. I mean, the radar could of been more stealthy, and the dash cam, meh.

This would have to grow on me (even if temporary). Though, it might be able to sit on the inner edge of the cluster, and then yeah, I could always tuck it into the pocket box. No mounting necessary. Only one drilled hole in pocket box for wires to go through. Hmmm, starting to grow on me....

I also kind of like the idea of 'stuff it' if I had to reinstall and use the BMS pedal tuner - I can just have both in that box, closed up. Hmmm...

Yup I'm still digging the steering column one. If it was smaller and could fit in between the dash and the Idrive screen that would be nifty. I have my dashcam setup just like yours, in fact, the newer model that came out actually turns off the screen after a few minutes which is really nice because at night it's another light to distract me (which sometimes I just flip the sunvisor down on the minivan to cover it).

The pedal tuner I actually have it taped under the radio.. it ads another dim light shining down onto the cupholder and you honestly have trouble seeing it.

Who is that a knock at? Not me I hope, cause I'm just came out of a 1.5 year hibernation to get back to working on cars after my beast of an STI that I built.

I can do just about anything technically. I am just now socially opening up here on the forum vs. being a lurker.

Haha I think rounderman is saying he is admiring your work as he is only skilled enough to change a tire and that's where he draws the line

I was close to going with an sti, but loving Mitsubishi's and then the evo came to north america I stuck with that for two years. Unfortunately it was definitely profiled and after getting many tickets consistently and going to court and winning them all..I decided to jump ship once I had my first kid to a Legacy GT. I can definitely say the boxer engine had no room to work on compared to the 4g63.. and these bmw engines are equally tight to get to, maybe even more!

exactly, I was professing admiration. I know my technical limitations, now give me a spreadsheet and I might do some mods for you

Serious;y I know enough not to get my self in trouble which means I don't do mechanical stuff but a little coding.....

Anyway truly admire what you are doing thanks for all the updates

Giggle. Giggle.

I think this is my last mock-up. I never really examined in-depth the curvature of the steering column to the instrumentation panel. I had no reason to.

Though spending just a few minutes with some paper and mocking up dimensions prior to me receiving the Koso X-1 boost gauge, I started laughing out loud like a little girl - that or a mad scientist!

Yeah, definitely going to put the boost gauge permanently affixed here. In fact, from what I can tell with the brackets provided, and some trusty ole Automotive 3M tape, I think I can simply use what comes with the gauge and mount it with no custom brackets. That's the theory right now.

And i think it would look really good and can always be in use.

Here is my mock ups, less the actual Gauge.

I'll make it work and be happy with it.

Love it when a plan comes together!

A+!! Love the subi .. I actually pictured a generation or two older. I love those foglights in the grille too!

And yes, that's exactly where I pictured the gauge to fit! (well not necessarily in the recessed hole, but I expected it to have lots of room to sit there) Although one of these days I might add an analog sweeper to the steering wheel column since I love watching the needles sweep.

Glad I picked the KOSO, kinda 'fits' more in the 'not out of place' look in a rectangle vs. round - but we will see. I think it will be just right. : so excited :

Started bench building the wire harness OEM style. Awaiting KOSO Boost Gauge package today. Once I get it, I'll bench test it, and mock it up on the steering column with external power supply (not from car). That's pretty much what I think I can achieve today. Tomorrow-Saturday I'll be able to continue on with mounting the boost gauge, running power to fuse panel, as well as running electronics to engine bay to vacuum sender. And then sender vacuum line to NM-Eng tap, and all that entails.

Decided to securely mount the bracket to the upper steering column cover. Worst case, if I ever want to go back to OEM, I'll have to order a replacement: https://parts.germainbmw.com/oem-par...ItMGwtbDQtZ2Fz

I'll mock it up and then pop off the cover, drill two holes, put in screws and nuts, reassemble and bam! All good.

I spent my lunch hour taking apart my glove box area. I also inserted in my bench harness I made, tapped the fuse box with an add-a-fuse (#52 switched ignition 5 AMP), and grounded my harness to dash bolt-on-frame. I plugged in my DashCam into the new harness versus how I had it plugged into the 12V outlet under the glovebox (now free'd up). All works good. And I buttoned everything back up except for the under-glovebox tray (that's only two 8mm screws).

Basically, when I get the gauge today, I'll be able to test it with my harness already in the car, mock up where I want to put it on the steering column, pop off the steering column upper, go to the bench, mount the bracket to the column upper, gauge to the bracket, column upper to the column lower, run the cable to the right towards the glove box, plug into my harness. Put the lower glovebox tray back on. And done - for fixed mounting and power.

I'll also snake the electronic sender cable to the engine today as well and see if I can find a place to mount the vacuum sender in the engine bay. That's all I'll be able to do today (I think).

Just keeping y'all updated.

Peace.

I am seriously impressed but looking at your pictures of the STI I am not surprised. Hope it all goes as planned.

Thursday - end of day - final update.

Tired. Not as young as I used to be.

Simply put. Everything is permanently OEM-style installed and fully tested except for the NM-Engineering Boost Tap and vacuum line. I'll work on this tomorrow.

Turned out great IMO!

Pix below:

Note: Reading of PSI is not hooked to anything, but it does work.

Oh, P.S. At some point I'll take day shots so you can see the gauge mount better.

The curvature of the upper steering console was so perfect matched with the gauge that it 'just fit' perfectly.

I am 5'11", so the boost gauge blocks the lower part of the instrument panel, just a tad, but if I stretch up a little bit, I can see everything.

Besides, I usually rely on HUD anyway.
