New guy ordered first Seiko

Hey guys! New to watches, looking to learn. I have been reading and mainly visiting Worn&Wound. Really wanted the Seiko 007, but didn't want to buy on eBay as a first timer, so I ordered brand new on Macy's 'Fourth' sale. I got the Seiko Sports 5.. it's the replacement to the classic 007, not as good, but good deal to get me started. I know this is an expensive game, but I'd like to start my collection under $1000 for now. Any other brands I should consider for something classy and good quality and easy to mod?

Also, any input on Luminox watches? Mainly the Navy Seal collection.

Thanks!

I started with a Seiko. Still one of my favorite brands. I have a Sarb033, and a SRP773. Great watches. I buy what I like. I have a Timex Expedition Scout, and a Weekender. Two simple, inexpensive watches. But I enjoy them.

Over the years I added a Rolex SS Submariner Date, 36mm DateJust, and a 39mm white dial Oyster Perpetual. This hobby get expensive OP. However, it’s one you will enjoy. Just take your time, and always buy what you like. Enjoy the journey.

a Seiko or Luminox are cheap crapy watches. Invest in a Panerai, Hublot, or IWC.

Congrats,
I have got a couple of Seiko watches and I love them .
For watch modding I know two great guys :

www.mullerandson.com (he also sells on ebay )

www.luciusatelier.com

When you search for Seiko mods you will be seeing tons of modders as well .

I like Luminox watches but as far as I'm concerned Luminox don't offer automatic watches .I may be sounding like an automatic watch snob , believe not, I can't stand "limping" second hand for the chronograph when I want to track some events . Another reason why I love Seiko quartz chronographs because their movements track the time 1/5th to the second which is cool

If you want a rugged tool watch and automatic then you should be considering Sinn .

Longines , Tissot, Hamilton , Certina makes decent watches as well . None of them are independent but that doesn't matter

this watch was featured on Hodinkee recently so now on out of stock / backordered - but something interesting to pair with a Seiko.

Casio G-shock's like the mudman are so good.

Luminox watches work fine enough but I never had any urge to get one. There are some Citizen and Bulova watches that I find more interesting.

So my first watch was a Seiko, a gift from my mother. I was getting into Scuba diving so she got me a dive watch. Loved it, I wish I still had it. I ended up working in the Commercial Diving industry and lusted after a Seiko Professional Divers Watch, I still do and might pick one up. (I ended up getting a Rolex Sea Dweller which is still my daily almost 30 years later) The Seiko Dive watches are highly collectable. If you're thinking about a Luminox Navy Seal watch you might want to look at the Seiko Dive watches. I like to own stuff that's a little different.

Are these also available on Seiko USA? I looked at Prospex but didn't like much under $500 mark.
