Also, why are you the last guy on the EV interest list but at the same time say "a Macan with a Taycan Turbo battery would be incredible"? Seems like you are very interested in the right EV.
I have driven a model 3 performance, model S P100D, and model X P100D, which are really the only main competitors as nothing else is nearly as fast. The P100D's both had ludicrous mode enabled.

The feel of the car is totally different. Even though it's 5000 pounds it feels much more like a sports car than the Panamera or any of the Tesla's with the model 3 being the closest. I drove the Taycan Turbo and a Panamera Turbo SportTurismo back to back. The handling is really great for a car that large/heavy, the instant torque is absurd and "feels" different than the Tesla's. Hard to explain without driving it. Try one, you will be surprised.

I'm not interested in EV's yet because the price point of a Taycan Turbo or Turbo S is too high and would be the only one I'd consider. But if you put that battery into a Macan and price it under $100k I'd be very interested. Don't know if that will ever happen as they won't want to undercut the Taycan by $50-60k. But one of those for a daily plus a 911 for weekends would be a great combo.

However... I didn't find it $130k impressive, which was what the 4S I test drove cost. IMO, an electric is only to add to fun cars, as it cannot match it. I view it as an appliance, and in that regards, $1900 a month for a "commuter" car is ridiculous. There are so many advantages of an electric cars for every day use though.

P.S. I find a used i3S very compelling at around $20k btw. But obviously, this is not as a replacement for an M.
He said it is VERY different than the competitors so I asked him what the competitors are that he drove and how they are different. You now say the interior is better than the S and it drives like a Porsche which doesn't say a lot considering it is a 5000+ lb electric sedan and the first EV Porsche.

I also will consider an electric for one of our 2 commuter cars but also look at it more like an appliance and won't consider one anywhere close to $100k. Mainly because the powerplant characteristics are pretty much the same on a $100k one and a $30k one, it's silent and most of the time has no transmission.

I'm patiently waiting for a smallish well built German electric coupe or sedan. The same physical requirements for any car I buy will still apply, so its no rush. Not bringing home anything larger or heavier than an E90 M3 sedan. Thats porky and large enough.

My favorite Tyacan wheel (21" Mission E Design Wheels) requires Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB) so it's a combined $8170 option.

Those Mission E wheels are gorgeous, and definitely add to the concept looks, although they are also contribute to a 10% range loss possibly (not sure but this article explains: https://electrek.co/2021/01/21/2021-...-tell-you-why/)

I think these 20' aero wheels are the sweet spot in looks and efficiency, although saying that I'd probably still get the Mission-E wheels Go big or go home...

I agree. I found range anxiety to be a fear but not for long trips as the wife has an SUV for that, but rather back roading and driving the car hard. When pushing the car hard range can easily drop, and where I go back roading there are mountains, elevation changes, high speed curves and stretches as well as no nearby chargers and a ton of different factors that can effect range negatively. While the area I backroad in is only an hour from the house, the amount of miles just to get there, then push the car, and then get back home could easily complicate things, especially with Electrify America chargers being sparse and unreliable in my area.

Add to the fact that I still don't care much for not having a gearbox to engage with or sound to listen to (not a fan of the fake exhaust) it wouldn't be as enjoyable. I still find EV's to be better as everyday commuters rather than fun and sporty cars, at least for my needs.
Well said

Yup. Sure do. Not gonna lie, awfully tempted by the Cayman GTS. The options list is absurd though.

They are everywhere in Chicagoland. I see them daily.

Don’t forget that the Taycans all qualify for $7500 credit too. Realistically the base Taycan is 100k give or take. A 4S is on average going to be 125-150, the turbo 170-190 and the Turbo S 210+. They are selling extremely well and thing Porsche will be pushing these hard in 2021.

To that point, the local Porsche dealer is really starting to look rather generic these days. Gone are the days when the Porsche dealer was busting at the seams with sports cars. Now? 90% SUVs and sedans. It does seem that time on the lot for Taycans is a bit lower than most of the other stuff on the lot.

100% - I live 2min from Porsche Exchange here in Illinois - large dealer with a substantial social media presence - they have some amazing select vehicles that come through (and sit occasionally) but acres of Macans and Cayennes.

It makes sense they are keeping stock of the bread and butter. That's what is keeping the brand afloat.

Exactly. The vast majority of people can either not afford a car like a 911 or don't have a place in their life for a small and somewhat impractical sports car like a 718 or 911. People want SUVs which can be driven every day in all environments and haul the people/stuff they require. It's great that Porsche has been so successful with their SUV line which has allowed them to continue to create incredible sports cars.

Yes, agree. I like the way Porsche has entered the SUV and EV segments, compared with the way MB has done it. The Macan and Cayenne in my opinion carry the Porsche DNA well.

With MB, the GLE does an adequate job, and possibly the GLS. MB owners debate the credibility of the GLS as the "S-Class of SUVs". It's not.

The GLC is so-so.

The GLA and GLB are horribly cheap, share a platform with another brand (GLA) and do not carry the MB brand DNA. It's another example of MB's downward spiral into model proliferation and and starving their core models of investment because resources are being siphoned into EVs. MB's reliability was never what people thought it was, and today is it worse and headed in an unfavorable direction.

MB is harvesting the cash cow which is their brand, by hollowing out formerly very good models and introducing entry level models that are simply the least bad offerings in their segments. Porsche on the other hand seems to be navigating their product portfolio fairly well.
