Fuel Sensor Identification

Hi Guys,

Please assist me - I am looking to identify the name/function of the sensor in the picture below.

2016 X1 F48 Sdrive20d

The sensor is attached to the "Fuel Line In Engine Compartment" part number "13 53 8 514 114".

I just need to know what the sensor is doing and what it is called?

The sensor itself is leaking, and BMW want to replace the whole fuel line.

Tx

www.bimmercat.com is your friend. Type in the part number or your vin number if you need to find a part.

https://bimmercat.com/bmw/en/parts/i...nt/13538514114 - according to the note the sensor checks the fuel temperature.

Same issue on my wife's X1, that sensor is part of the whole fuel line, can't be fixed, the whole assembly has to be ordered and replaced (number 1 in the link). It's extremely stupid engineering, as the fuel actually travels down the wiring, from that sensor, directly into the ECU unit, it floods it and the ECU dies.

So, after replacing this, you should check if you have fuel on the ECU connector. If so, the ECU has to be opened and cleaned.

It's a fucking nightmare.

I wonder if jamessfarnell has fixed the issue without opening the ECU for cleaning.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to ask if 13538514114 part replacement resolved the issue with the fuel leakage or you did something extra to fully resolve the problem?

My sensor on 2nd series vehicle is also in diesel...

Thanks!

Hi All,
Its been a long time on this tread!
Solution was just to replace - BMW did this on warranty when car was still covered.
No fuel was in the ECU connection to my knowledge - no issues since then on this.
---
The item in question is a high-pressure fuel sensor.

Thanks jamessfarnell for your quick reply.

I guess I have to start with particular part (13538514114) replacement and hope for the best.

pole1980 Let me know if your nightmare ended well and you resolved the problem? Thanks!

Hi

I see you had the same problem. How did you solve it at the end?
I assume I need to buy the fuel line with the sensor coming with it, which is not a problem.
I would like to check if the DDE is flooded too but struggling to identify the location of it to check the connector if it has diesel on it.

Lastly, if the DDE has no leaks in, will this become a DIY job replacing the fuel line?

Thanks

PS: my car still drives etc so hoping it is not flooded but noticed while checking my car, that the MAF connector has diesel on it. Is this part of the fuel line. Do I need to buy the MAF sensor itself too?

Fuel Sensor

What it guys! This is a really bad one if you don't catch it in time!
Mine has started pumping diesel in through all the leads and senors and into the ECU and BMW have said it will cost thousands to fix so it has basically made my car useless!!!!

I was also told BMW know about the fault with the Fuel sensor!

So sorry to read your bad news. Yes, it is a well known fault and indeed a part and design flaw. It can and regularly does trash the ecu. I would ask the dealer to seek a BMW contribution. I urge everyone with diesel engines to regularly check this part and if there is any hint of fuel, stop driving and sort.

MJE60 - Does this defect only affect Diesel engines?

Hi
The issue is in the (diesel) high pressure common rail injection line so luckily not an issue for your 2.0i petrol engine. I will edit my post to clarify the point. I am however slightly confused by reference to part 13538514114 which is a fuel temp sensor and is not the part (fuel pressure sensor part 13538577623) which regularly fails and leaks into the DDE. I better reply and get them to check that they have actually identified the correct leak point as the diesel does get all over the place. Do we have another vulnerable point?
Cheers

I agree with this post. The fuel pressure sensor failed on mine and resulted in the drivetrain malfunction error on the I drive.
Luckiky scanned with ista in reasonable time and STOPPED driving immediately after learning the codes.
The fuelline needs to be replaced at best as the sensor is part of it.(360new)
Worse it can leak to MAF sensor (£380 new) which was my case.
I nearly flooded my ECU as found 1 drop on the connector to it.
Normally ypu should replace the wiring loom as it has diesel in it but I did not as it isfine so far.
The leak is quite significant so I would say 100mls or even with leak will destroy your ECU
