IDrive Flickers
F31 2013
For some reason my IDrive screen randomly turns off and on, almost like its resetting. It's ok 98% of the time. I don't really know the percentage but you get the idea I did put it down to maybe being in hot temps due to being directly in the sun due to position on the dash but its happened when its not been hot so eliminates that idea. |

Randomly restarting is different to a flicker. Which is it? Flickering screen or turning itself on and off again?
Mine has been resetting itself randomly since 38,000 miles (now on 66,000). Never got to the bottom of it. Google it as there are many causes. I'm waiting for it to blow up completely and just get another one under warranty. |

My idrive does the same with random reboots, most commonly in Summer when the roof is down and the sun is shining on the screen and most inconveniently when I'm using the satnav[at any time of year] and an important change of direction is coming and then the screen goes blank.
I mentioned this to the dealer during a service and apparently a software update is available for the car but would cost upwards of £200. I decided against it as a) I'm tight and b) the connected drive subscription has expired and I now rely on the phone for satnav duties |

Yeah same as mine. It can go months without a reset, and then all of a sudden it will reset itself after filling up with fuel, or randomly into a journey a few times.
You can try clearing the user data, but you will need to re pair your phone again afterwards and reset other settings, but apparently the storage can fill up or become corrupted. It flags as a HU reset in Bimmerlink's info memory, but no fault codes. Maybe also make sure the battery is healthy as F3Xs seem to be really picky with electrical health. |
