E87 130i Exhaust Options
Hey all,
Sorry, I thought I would create a thread, i've looked around through the forum and some google and couldn't exactly find a proper exhaust system for the 130i. Eisenmann do a muffler set up in Stainless steal but that is AU$3500 and for quad tips its AU$4500. So my question is, what are you guys running exhaust wise, how does it sound (noise level and such) and also how much does it cost/where to buy. Pics would also be a plus. Sorry to ask so much but for the life of me can't find anything in Australia for a 130i. I am wanting to it to be louder, more crackly and allow it to breath a bit better. Thanks, Jono. |

Have you looked on youtube for 130i Exhaust. There are loads fo rthe 135i so i should imagine there are lots for the 130i. My choice for your car would be the BMW Performance exhaust system from the dealer. They look and sound great imo.

Hey Mike,
I have looked on youtube but I have yet to be given information on where to buy and prices. The BMW performance one looks very nice, but in Australia it is not available, it does not have it on the BMW Australia website like it has on the UK one (I've checked both). I really am not sure, so don't let this come across as being a smart arse but I the 135i and the 130i exhaust system might be completely different and I have a feeling they are different, so they might be a mismatch. I say this because I go to websites like turnermotorsports and others and they dont even sell anything for the E87 130i only the E82 and E88 1 series coupes and converts, nothing for the E87 hatchback. Apart from Eisenmann which is priced ridiculously and BMW performance one (which isn't available in Australia anyways) I can't find one. I might give my local dealer a call anyways to see if they distribute it in Aus, but if its not on the website, I am fairly sure its a no go. Thanks, Jono |

I have the BMW Performance exhaust on my 130i and I'm very pleased with it. It has just the right amount of noise when on it and also still quiet when using lighter throttle openings with no boominess in motorways.
Do note that it's only a back box and not a full cat-back system. Here's my review here with pics - http://babybmw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=11769 Other systems available include Baystuck and Supersprint although I've not heard these systems. PS have you enquired at the dealer with the correct part number for the exhaust. Maybe you can get it? |

I really like that muffler set up you got there sooty, looks very nice.
I was looking for more of a system really, but that sounds nice, but was it worth the money with the little extra sound? How much did it set you back? Cheers |

I think the retail is around £540 in the UK but with the credit crunch you can get very good discounts over here. I paid £400 for mine and was lucky to have a paypal 20% off voucher so I got mine for £340
BMW don't publish any official bhp improvement but I have read somewhere that it's around 8-10 bhp unofficial. It feels subjectively faster because it is louder. Now that I've had it on my car for around 9 months now, I would say it's louder than it was when I first got it. I would recommend it I did think about a full cat back system from Supersprint but pricing it all up it was more than £1500 if I recall and from the gains that might have been negligable over the BMW performance one. I would say that you may at a guess have got an extra 5 bhp which for the outlay is simply not worth it in my opinion. I have also heard many stories of people who put third party performance exhausts on and love the loud sound when they get it but go on to loath the boominess of the droning when cruising at lower speeds. I think BMW have made the perfect compromise between sound/performance and refinement.

I like your thinking sooty, V6s can drone fairly bad.
500pounds is a lot, where as here for about AU$1000 which is the same as 500pounds I could get a full stainless steal cat back custom made system. I would love to get a BMW performance muffler but for 500 pounds i think that is abit steep you know, when after market would be considerably cheaper and maybe sound/perform better. I will have a look and see if BMW Aus will supply me one, but if I get the opportunity to get a full system done by a custom exhaust fabricator for the same price as the BMW muffler then I may swing for custom. I am just trying to get stuck in and really understand what options I have. Thanks for your help and if you have any dimensions or specs on the BMW performance muffler that would be good. Is it a straight through muffler? Or does it still have stuff packed inside of the BMW performance one? Cheers |

Apologies I didn't realise the 130 system differed that much from the 135 system. they are both the same price so would have thought that even if the design was different you would get the same set up.
The 135 system ships with a centre silencer replacement straight pipe and an axle back muffler/backbox. |

I wouldn't be surprised they are the same back box but you get the extra pipe that replaces the centre silencers on the 135i. not sure if it's only the 135i that has the extra set of silencers??
The 135i exhaust is marginally more expensive. @jono I know what you are saying about a custom exhaust for that price is good but remember it's only custom made because they haven't done one before The BMW Performance one was also custom made at one point

yer true sooty, but maybe the reason why I would get a custom one would be because there simply isn't one available for a good price...
I like idea of the genuine BMW one but it makes me cringe thinking how much it would be in Australia...AU$1000 and onwards most likely. |

Agreed with everyone on the BMW Performance exhaust.
Is quite when you want it and loud when your giving it. Better value for money then other competitors.

Depends where you are in aus
I picked up mine custom in bris. very difficult to find anywhere that would do the exhaust for the 130, all saying due to the diff position; and this guy was well priced and did a nice job |
