B-pillar recall fix

Hi there, I've just gotten the fix done, it's an ugly plastic thingy in the B pillars on both driver and passage side. Does anyone have info about what exactly the fix is? This thing is hideous looking and the dealer didn't even ask for permission only mentioned in the service record.

Ha, I just ran out to my car to see what you were talking about. I got it done a couple months ago and hadn't even noticed the new plastic part! You really don't see it unless you're sitting in the backseat and I think they did a nice job making it look like a clean part.

As for your question, the notice says this: "The X1 models were recalled because in the event of a crash where the occupant's head contacts the B-pillar, the pillar may not absorb an adequate amount of the impact."

Kind of a silly recall imo. I'm all about safety, but that seems awfully minor compared to safety recalls I've read about for other cars.

It isn't silly if it's the reason it failed a safety test, that failure has to be resolved if they want the cars to able to be sold in the US. The modification resolved the issue that caused it to fail the test.

OP, they don't and won't ask about a safety recall, it must be done before they can give the car back to you.

And I'm not questioning the process, I'm commenting the nitpicky nature of the FMVSS criteria that it failed.
