This is a hatchback with a lift kit.

So this is interesting... this version of the B48 can churn out 300HP. If so how can the B58 be justified besides inherent smoothness and the 2 extra cylinders?

What are the key differences in this flavor of the X2's B48 vs the B48 we get elsewhere in the BMW ecosystem?

The horsepower increase will be from more boost and different tuning, maybe also a different camshaft. It may also have some stronger parts.

Why have B48 and B58? For vehicles that a B58 fits into, a regular B58 will probably be more economical than a boosted B48. Also, don't forget that the exact same changes they make to boost the B48 can also be used on the B58, because these engines are modular.

The B48 starts at under 200hp and goes up to ~300hp, while the B58 makes either 335hp and 385hp. There are 322hp and 365hp versions also, but those will go away soon. So there is no overlap.

Hated the look when the X2 was unveiled, but have driven a loaner with the M Sport Pkg for the past week. Must be honest...handles way better than I expected. My father has an X1 that he leased just as his Winter beater and dog park car, and the X2 is a significant upgrade handling-wise. Felt more like a grippy hot hatch when being hustled through windy back roads. As a former F80 M3 and now current Alfa Quadrifoglio owner, I will say it is much better driving than you’d think. Drive one before out right trashing it.

Some X2 reviews I have seen in YouTube seem to agree with you regarding the solid handling.

My main 2 caveats with the X2 are overall rear visibility and price premium over the similar and roomier X1.

Honestly, the X1 is not much roomier. The only place where the X1 feels larger is in the headroom dept, but even there, the X2 is adequate for most. Rear window is definitely slimmer but did not find it to be too limiting at all.

The x2 has more standard equipment to justify the price over the x1. The x2 is still quite roomy for it's size. Feels the same as the x1 from the drivers seat.

I've had my x2 for a few months now, i love it. It drives and handles great. It also looks substantially better than the stodgy x1.

Excellent thanks for the feedback.

The X1 is bigger inside, not only in the headroom, but also the rear seat and rear compartment. It should be, because it's higher and longer. The only drawback for me of the X2 as compared to the X1 is reduced rear visibility. The X2 handles better and IMO also looks much better.

Technically you could be right about the overall size being larger on the X1, but aside from head room, the X2 felt roughly the same in both the trunk and rear seat leg room. I had both in my garage for a week, which is a good way to test them out back to back in real world application. The X2 was shockingly adequate from a size perspective despite looking much smaller from the outside.

Have an X2 msport xdrive with no options except heated steering wheel/seats. I must say I love how it drives, this is coming from a guy that drove an e63 amg then 235xi... Handles like a car, but has the extra space. Just added a tune and its even better. Will this be my next vehicle, probably not, but I use it as a work vehicle for hauling all my stuff around.

As far as the blindspots, it was way worse on my 06 e90 325i. Had to purchase blindspots mirrors for it...

I am surprised how much I like it though...

Which tune did you add? Is it pulling a lot better?

jb+, I haven't really opened it up since i'm under 1200 miles still. But, yes it's worth it even at lower rpm.

X2 M35i might be the one I need to wait for, either this or the new 3 Series G20. So will the X2 M35i be rear wheel drive?

No, the X2 M35i will not be rear wheel drive. It will be on exactly the same platform. At the very best, it might have somewhat more rear-biased AWD, but this is based on speculation, not fact.
