Really something the way the haters of the X2 are fixating on such trivial details such as the roundel...
I've driven both an X1 and an X2. The X1 isn't an M3 but it handles okay. The X2 is even better. The X2 with 300 HP would be quite a hot hatch. AFRAIK, the front brakes are the same as on various JCW Minis. Drilled and slotted rotors are available. |

I'm not a fan of SUVs, CAVs, or whatever moniker is now used.
I do like the X2 because it reminds me of a hatchback. But, this is not a GTI competitor. The GTI is a proper hatchback, as it's basically a coupe or sedan with it's lower center of mass, and it simply has a lift up hatch to access the boot/trunk area. The X2 is more like a raised hatch, but clearly the mass sits higher as does the seating position. The X2 is in the same line as the new CUVs coming where they look more like a proper hatchback and a small SUV bumped in the night and some time later a hybrid was born. The X2 is a new category and type of vehicle that is not quite a proper hatch nor a proper SUV. Other competitors like MB, Volvo, Jag, Ford, Chevy, etc. are also all-in on the compact SUV craze. Yes, I can see the appeal to hatch likers like me. But, I am still turned off by the sheer pointlessness of it all, and not likely to buy one. Lower the freaking thing as it should be and I would seriously consider buying one. BMW would have done much better if they simply made a proper, low mass center, hatch instead of this hybrid thing. It won't handle as well as a proper hatchback, and it doesn't have the same high roof and utility of a SUV. It's yet another "designed by market fashion" vehicle, quite fitting for the fickle American market, where way too many Americans think they need to sit up higher in their vehicles but don't want to look like they are in a truck. I kind of like the X2, but I'm not inclined to buy one for the very reason that it's not a proper hatch, and it's a vehicle where the mass is pointlessly raised as it serves no needed function of performance. Too many models BMW. You're losing me quickly, though it appears you're gaining more new customers. Have a nice business because it seems I need to look elsewhere for a car that appeals to people who still enjoy driving and driving performance. Last edited by RPM90; 06-21-2018 at 04:39 PM.. |

The have an interesting "tween" hatch/SUV look, but they will not perform at a driving level that a proper hatch like a GTI or Type R, Focus/RS, WRX/STI, or Civic can. As politely as I can, your use of the words "direct competitor" is quite incorrect in this regard. |

I hope that they will use this new version to put a nice gear shifter, the current one is the most annoying of all the BMW lineup
