Focal 8” under seat sub upgrade
I’ve just ordered these on eBay and should be here next week. As I have the base unit, these are 4ohms and direct replacement for the small crammed in 6” units.
I’ll report back once there fitted and can give them a good test. |

Looked through a lot of the forums and the base sound system is the same across many models, I also read the install document and it has a lot of good quality pictures, that show the housing the same as mine. Not sure why the F48 is listed on a lot of upgrades when they are the same.

Follow up to the above, I fitted these speakers into the OEM housing no problem at all. As the seats in the X1 are high you don't actually need to remove the sub housing.
I have pictures which I will upload later, the quality of the speakers vs stock was obvious, with a substantial weight difference. I got these at a reasonable price, which is good as they just don't IMO give a huge improvement over the stock units. Yes, you can feel and hear the bass much better, as I only have the base system, but I would guess if you have the HiFi system or HK, you would be really disappointed. |

You do get a much better bass punch, which just wasn't there before, but the housings are so small, the benefits where going to be limited. Having not heard the HK system, I cant compare.
I did replace the door speakers with better units, with a combined tweeters the results, where very impressive. |

Hey Mushy! What tweeter speakers did you get? Also, if you had the basic stereo, there are no tweeters included, right?
Off-topic...what a night for Liverpool FC on Tuesday!! I envy you if you were at the game or a pub in that area. |

Good to know. I just did all the other interior speakers in my X2 with Focals, and was debating going all in on the subs too. I have the HiFi system and the subs are ok, but I think some of the extreme lows around 40Hz could be a little tighter still.

Yeah my next move is one of the plug and play amps.
Took me about a half hour to get the first one out. T50 to get the seat out, back and forth. Although raising it helped me to get the rear bolts. Unscrewing everything else including the two 10mm nuts that hold the whole enclosure in. Once everything is out, I put down a square of FatMat just because...figured I had some and was in there, so. Others have talked about placing it inside the plastic enclosure. I also went without the sub gasket since it makes the whole package too thick to screw back together. All in all its a nice improvement but really needs more watts to make it sing. |
