The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA

Quote:
Dimensionally, the new CLA is 48mm longer, 53mm wider and 2mm lower than its predecessor (4688/1830/1439mm), with the larger body helping to increase front headroom by 17mm, and rear elbowroom by 44mm. Rear legroom is 1mm more accommodating, while rear shoulder room has increased by a more substantial 22mm.

Underneath the skin Mercedes-Benz has widened the front and rear tracks by 63mm and 55mmrespectively, which not only enhance the looks but should also help provide better handling.

Bolstering this are a lower centre of gravity, a multi-link rear axle and a larger-diameter stabiliser bar. Buyers can also option adaptive dampers, while alloy wheel designs ranging from 16 to 19 inches will be offered.

Mercedes-Benz adds the CLA gets a unique ESP calibration to cater for its "potentially high cornering speeds and handling performance".

It looks like an Acura skinned a C class' face and then wore it.

Love South Florida CLA drivers. They buy the absolute cheapest Mercedes Benz for sale in the United States and immediately start flexing on the streets and on social media.

I’m happy for them - now they’re going to actually be getting Mercedes Benz interiors

This.

And not a good looking fish either, more like those living at the bottom of the ocean.

Would much rather get the A3 sedan then.

Really intrigued by the A class as well. We're looking at replacing my wife's A3 and she really prefers the hatchback form factor. Not a lot of options and Mercedes appears to have hit a home run with the new A class.

The CLA is just kind of meh.

The A class is modern and combines all the cool features you would want in a compact car. I'm sure the driving dynamics will be in the true Mercedes fashion of comfort over performance.

When the CLA first came out I wasn't a fan and still feel the same about its styling. I will say that after driving it as a rental I was surprisingly impressed for an entry level MB.

You are too hard on folks. a poser is someone who pretends to be someone/something else.

Just because someone drives a relatively inexpensive Benz or BMW doesn't make him a poser. Dressing the car up as something else is different (e.g., sticking M3 badges on a 320i).

I personally find the Mercedes commercials offputting and offensive. "The best or nothing". So if someone can't afford a Mercedes, they should walk, take the bus or hitchhike?

Heck, in much of the world, a 320i is not the bottom of the barrel.

That's no more offensive than "The Ultimate Driving Machine" when no BMW currently made is the ultimate driving machine in its respective class.

At least "The best or nothing" has (supposedly) deep historical precedent. It's a shortening of "The best or nothing at all", attributed to Gottlieb Daimler in the early 1900s ... and it refers to what the company aims to manufacture and offer to customers. It's a slogan about the company -- which is what a slogan should be about -- not its customers.

BMW aims to make the ultimate driving machine as well. Whether or not MB or BMW meet their goals is up to debate however.
