H&R Sport Springs Review & Comparison Pics
I recently bought a 2019 X2 M35i. I don't plan on doing a lot of modifications, but I was willing to take a gamble on H&R sport springs because I've had great experience with them in the past. This kit is part number 28790-6 and fits s/x 28i and M35i models.
I took a few comparison shots - matching up the perspectives in the before and after shots was "interesting" with an iphone, but I did the best I could. You can see that it's a modest drop; not too subtle but also not too aggressive. My review is short and sweet - this kit, hands down, provided the best handling results I've ever achieved with lowering springs. I can easily say 85% of the "floatiness" at higher speeds is gone. It is literally amazing how much more car-like the handling is now. I can zip back and forth without any feelings of unease. Next up I have 12.5 mm Turner spacers going in along with Michelin non-runflats which I'm guessing will make things even better. I'll provide an update once I have some time behind the wheel with those. |

Thanks for the info and excellent comparison pictures. Does your car have the dynamic damper option? Either way, how does the strut/shock damping feel with the lower and stiffer springs over various types of undulating pavement, large bumps, diagonal bumps at speed (like a turning interstate on/offramp with a pavement transition in it), etc?

Thanks for the kind words guys. I don’t have dynamic damping. This is totally subjective, but I would estimate about a 15% to 20% increase in harshness over bumps, imperfections, speed bumps etc. I definitely go over speed bumps at a decreased speed, but not so slow that it requires an angular offset; hopefully that makes sense. I still go head on, but at about 70% the speed. I also have a lowered, supercharged E90 M3 and let me put it this way - the X2 goes over bumps much more quickly. It’s certainly not 600+ hp BMW, Z06, GT3 w/o front lift bad over speed bumps.

Great pictures, it really helps! I would think your tires would help a lot.. I can't wait until I run my stock runflats down to replace with regular tires. My local roads are so harsh I do not want to go back to harder suspension.. it was pretty tough on my E60 with coilovers.. but everywhere else sure felt great!

I've been getting PMs so here's an update. I added 12.5 mm Turner wheel spacers and Michelin CrossClimate tires to the mix several months ago. The attached picture shows the flushness with the H&R springs, spacers, and those particular tires. I've experienced zero vibrations and the tires are phenomenal - if you aren't aware, they're severe snow rated all seasons. I've nailed it from a dead stop in 40 degree (F) rain and the car just goes.
Note that you need hub-centric wheel spacers for these cars (with a "lip" curving upward near the centers). I'm running Turner #568464 but it appears that they're backordered now. |

Yep stock sizes. And I’ve kept everything else stock since. Very happy with just the springs, spacers, and Michelin cross climates. If you live in an area with decent rainfall and some degree of snow, it’s a great setup.
