BMW Brand
In the first quarter of 2021, BMW brand sales totaled 71,433 vehicles, a 20.1% increase from the 59,455 vehicles sold in the first quarter of 2020.

MINI Brand
MINI brand sales totaled 6,285 vehicles in the first quarter of 2021, an increase of 20% vs the 5,237 vehicles sold in the first quarter of 2020.

BMW brand sales remained strong in the first quarter of 2021, building on the momentum generated during the second half of 2020. High numbers of consumer deliveries and high dealer turn rates are indicators of a healthy and sustained level of consumer demand. Sedan sales were boosted by the launches of the all-new BMW M3 and M4 this quarter, while the company’s line up of Sports Activity Vehicles accounted for 58% of sales.

“BMW has led the premium segment and increased segment share in the U.S. in each of the past two years based on the strength of our product portfolio and dealer network,” said Bernhard Kuhnt, president and CEO, BMW of North America. “We are off to a good start in 2021 and are looking forward to a successful year ahead.”

BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles
BMW Certified Pre-Owned sales totaled 28,152 vehicles during the first quarter of 2021, an increase of 2.2% from the same quarter a year ago.
Total BMW Pre-Owned sales were 51,874 vehicles during the first quarter of 2021, a decrease of 2.0% from the same quarter a year ago.

MINI Pre-Owned Vehicles
MINI Certified Pre-Owned sales totaled 2,727 vehicles during the first quarter of 2021, an increase of 10.7% from the same quarter a year ago.
Total MINI Pre-Owned sales were 5,963 vehicles during the first quarter of 2021, an increase of 6.7% from the same quarter a year ago.

*The sales reported in today’s figures are of BMW passenger cars and light trucks, as well as MINI passenger cars. Consistent with auto industry practice in the US, BMW of North America follows the U.S. Auto Industry Sales Release Schedule issued annually by Motor Intelligence for purposes of reporting sales of BMW passenger cars and light trucks and MINI passenger cars. As a result, the sales of BMW passenger cars and light trucks and MINI passenger cars reflected in today’s Q1 2021 figures occurred between January 5, 2021 and March 31, 2021. The sales of BMW passenger cars and light trucks and MINI passenger cars reflected in Q1 2020 figures occurred between January 3, 2020 and March 31, 2020.

Well it shouldn't be too shocking considering Q1 2020 was the beginning of the pandemic with dealers closing and many customers not spending money on new cars.

Most brands have reported sales growth, some had even triple digits of growth. And then we have the unfortunate brands (such as Infiniti) who are reporting year after year of loss despite the economy and buying market returning back to normal.

Sucks to see that. Doesn't even seem like an LCI would be worth it for those numbers (much less a manual )

Well you can get covid driving with the top down

Seriously the main reason is the Z4 is mainly an extra car for people that buy it or an "extra spend". Which most people cut out with the pandemic. I am sure all cars like this were crushed in sales.

We also need to remember these are US numbers, in other parts of the world certain cars sell much better (I am sure x1/x2 have nice numbers in Europe)

X3 huge sales increases. X4, yikes that's a low take rate, wonder what their expectations were. If only it looked a little better in the rear. I picked X3M just because it looked so much better, didn't need the full cargo space (really want a M3 wagon).

Should look at Q1 2019 as well as baseline..

Not a true comp especially against March 2020 where the economy was shut down.

Regardless, encouraging to see people spending money again.

I think a more than a few of us here contributed to this uptick in sales on certain models. Will be interesting to see if the trend continues for the next 1/4.

Somehow irrelevant growth taking into account the last year pandemic situation with dealers closed and so on...
Z4 might have better sales once the temperature will raise 🤔

With the exception of X3, X5 outsold every other BMW model in Q1 2021. This is a testament to how well X5 is positioned for its target market.

I know it's cool to hate on the 2 series but that's a decent increase in sales.

You are right in that some manufacturers like Tesla saw over 100% increase. The industry saw a 9% increase, but BMW at 20% means it gained overall market share. Impressive performance by the X3, which is not surprising since everyone that I know that is shopping for SUVs around me has the X3 in their list and BMW has done of great job in catering to many types of buyers.

They sold as many X5 in Q1 2021 as they did in Q1 2018, which was above Q1 2019, which is when I believe the G05 was introduced. I was under the impression that the G05 led to significantly higher X5 sales, but looks like it's been steady for a few years now. This is to BMWs credit since it is a very competitive segment.

Only thing I'm sad to see is the 2-series doing well. That thing is a total POS.

Probably should compare against Q4 2019, as that was the last full non-pandemic quarter.
