Some good news - persistence in reporting the issue backed up by your comments on this forum ( grateful thanks) has resulted on my dealer speaking to BMW. Who have agreed to change the front wishbones. Initial report back by phone suggested it would be the just the wishbone bushes changed but on the paperwork when I collected the car, it suggests the wishbones complete. Interested to hear from ttimbo if his was bushes or complete wishbones?
Parts on order from Germany so a wait now to its done and hopefully problem fixed. . |

Complete wishbones for me. The dealer had the car for a few days and the lead service tech said it wasn't a trivial job

My car has this clunk noise also and it is out of warranty. I'm going to buy the necessary parts myself.
I have checked my car's VIN from the realoem website and it seems that, I need those parts: 31126879843 - Control arm with rubber bushing, left 31126879844 - Control arm with rubber bushing, right Beside them, do I need those parts also? 31126882843 - Wishbone bracket with rubber mount left 31126882844 - Wishbone bracket with rubber mount right |

Given this is a known issue for the car, and there's a BMW TSB on it, I reckon it's worth going to your dealer and asking the question. As to the parts, I'm currently traveling but will try to remember when I get back, and let you know

My car is out of warranty since June 2018. I already asked the dealer but they wanted me to pay all the repair cost. They said that Germany did not accept to provide goodwill repair even though my car is just at 40K. Then I wrote a letter to BMW.de 2 weeks ago about this situation and they replied me that my request has been forwarded to the responsible department but still no news from that department. |

Hi, I'm in Australia, had the same problem knock front right. Suggested to the Service manager at BMW that it could be the front right engine mount and or wish bone suspension. Car is 5 years old {11/2015} but low kms at 49,000 (30,000 miles). They sent a request off to BMW Australia and they approved the repair, parts and labour at no cost. 👍

Just started experiencing this issue with my x1. Is this an extended warranty kind of repair?
My car is a 2016-- so out of any warranty-- but only has ~29k miles. If not covered under warranty I'll just do the repair myself in my garage. I'm in the US. |

I had the engine and gear mounts replaced which didn't clear the issue so both front wishbone replacement followed. Luckily all work was under warranty.
Surprisingly the knock returned some 9 months, 8000 miles later requiring the left front wishbone to be replaced again as there was metal to metal contact in one of the bushes. The mileage at which I and it appears other owners are experiencing this issue suggests there is a weakness in the design or manufacture of the wishbone bushes. |

Help!!! Changed both lower control arms, bushings AND engine mounts. No more squeaking on bumps but now knocking noise slow parking lot maneuvering and turns. Sounds horrible! Makes me “wanna throw it in the gutter and go buy another”!
