I had a similar issue with a previous BMW..it turned out to be the front subframe bolts were not properly torqued...I"d bet it's something like that if your mileage is low...modern bushings usually hold out well past 100K miles...

Hi guys, the dealer called me and said that bmw has a tsb for the problem, the tsb says to change both front left and right control arms with a revised control arm, he says that both are defective from factory

Does anybody have a link to this?

I tried looking for it under my BMW account and on recall sites but nothing came up.

Seems that I am facing the same problem on my 2016 X1 as well. Whether anyone has some solution/TSB number. How you have solved this situation with your dealer? Thanks

Garage List
There is a TSB for knocking noise from engine compartment. Cause is a damaged right side engine mount. Service bulletin #B22 02 17.

And there another TSB for creaking noise when cornering. Cause is the rubber transmission mount rubs on the aluminum housing. Service #B22 01 17.

Update — my car had its service and, after me explaining the problem and the tech lead taking a test drive, I've been told a new engine mount is needed, per service bulletin #B22 02 17.

Other owners experiencing a clunk or knock from the r/h front of the car should raise this with their dealer service department.

Thanks @mikeyb74 for the Service Bulletin information provided in this thread — sometimes we know more than the dealer techs!

Many thanks for your update! I have a clunk/knock sound from the right front side while cornering to the left. Will have an oilservice in June and also claim a clunk/knock issue.

And one more thanks to @mikeyb74 for sharing the service bulletin information

I had the same clunking noise on the front passenger side whenever going over a speed bump. Went to get it checked and they had to replace both control arms. They also found leakage in the front axle output shaft, so that had to be replaced as well. Finally, they did some required ecu programming.

I'm glad I've found this thread and happy it was an easy fix. All covered by the warranty.

A further update from me. After having the engine mount replaced, my dealer master technician still noticed front suspension noise. Further diagnostics resulted in replacement of both front wishbones now, per the TSB referenced above. All quiet now!

My 2016 2.5D's been into dealers today to have the "clunk" noise investigated - engine /transmission mount to be replaced. Part to come from Germany and car re booked in on 4th September.
Will report back after - hopefully this will clear issue and not require wishbones to be replaced as other forum members have reported. .

Having suffered the "clunk" or "knock" noise from the front of the vehicle, my dealer has replaced an engine transmission mount as reported by some forum members as a BMW TSB.
Whilst this initially appeared to clear the issue, sadly yesterday I noticed the noise again on at least two occasions. First as I manoeuvred out of the garage and then having reached the roadway turning slightly at the first bend/junction.
The noise doesnt appear to be aggrevated by speed bumps etc but is noticed carrying out what is very slow or slow speed manoeuvring.
I note some have reported replacements the to suspension and or steering components have had to be made - any chance these replacements can be elaborated on please so I can report back to my dealer with a list of possible causes.

Always seems to work better in cases of intermittent problems if you can go armed with ideas for them to pursue rather than the dealer working from cold on an issue?

Not sure if it connected but I am often finding the car tramlines or slightly verves on light braking. Could be aggrevated by having run flats on the 19" rims but I am concerned that it could be a steering or suspension issue as the cause.
The car has the adaptive suspension and steering options fitted - I am never that confident the car is planted firmly on the road which is often a recommendation praised for the X1 by motoring reviewers.

Any comments would be much appreciated. Tnanks

Have you asked your dealer service team about the front suspension wishbone TSB? No more noise from mine after that was done.
