OEM 20" Wheel Code -- Anyone Know It?

hi all,

so, i'm really thinking of getting the 20" OEM wheels that come on the m35i (if they don't cost like 1k$ per wheel). my m35i came with the 19" wheels and they look good, but the 20" wheels look great.

does anyone know the internal code (or the part number) for the OEM 20" wheels? i'm sure that many of you have these wheels on your cars, so help me out! when i google it, i'm not finding them.

thanks, everyone!

EDIT:

okay, so i found the code - 721m

they seem to be super expensive and i found them for sale in the UK but not the US which may lead me to either keep the 19"s or look at 20"s from a different model bmw.

i searched and oem wheels with the same or very similar offset and size aren't terribly attractive and not worth changing over. i really like to keep wheels oem, so for the time being i'll be keeping the 19"s. i'm lowering the car anyway on h&r lowering springs, so maybe 19"s will be best suited.

I think you might have better luck on the search with the part number vs the model model of the wheel

Good luck

Thanks! I'm going to wait until I lower the car as the springs came yesterday and I have to figure out a time with my go-to suspension shop. If the ride is okay (and I expect it to be) then perhaps I'll upgrade to the 20" wheels.

If it looks okay with the 19"s, though, then I'll leave as is because spending like 3k on wheels and then tires if the aren't really needed because the 19"s appear to fill out the wheel wells better when the car has been lowered, then, yeah, I'll just keep the M Sport 19"s. I'll keep all updated on my journey.

Also, I purchased a JB4 unit for the car, so this is going to be a little rocket. I also purchased the vgate icar pro bluetooth 4.0 in order to connect bimmercode so I can play around with that.

Some fun is to be had!

Oh, something else to consider/look into in regards to the visual/stance of the 19" wheels are using spacers. I had 12mm spacers on my X3M when I had the stock wheels on and it made a nice difference. I'll probably end up putting them on the X2 after we rack up some more miles on it...its still sub-1000 miles LOL

IMO, be careful adding spacers on stock wheels. Changing the offset in the front will alter the scrub radius, which can lead to significant torque steer and brake steer, where the car dives the other way from torque steer. Things can get a little squirrely, especially in wet/snow.

It's a good plan to do things one at a time.

so, i've reached out to about a handful of online retailers who are really dealerships with online storefronts claiming to be selling this particular 20" 721m wheel.

well, four of the five have gotten back to me stating that this part is no longer in production and thus no longer available for sale and the fifth didn't bother responding.

i LOVE a ton of oem bmw wheels, but it seems as though the offset of the 721m wheel is peculiar in that and it has a 112 bolt pattern rather than a 120 bolt pattern and a funky offset.

does anyone have any other suggestions on what is available in 20" and is also oem?

i would love, love, love to get this wheel to fit - https://www.autorimshop.com/catalog/...saArIAEALw_wcB

butttt the stats are totally off of the oem wheels on our cars.

suggestions?

edit: someone put up your damn wheels for sale! lol

I think you need to look into the G series cars Like the 5 series.. they have some nice big rims. I personally don't bother with OEM because people sell them for obnoxiously high prices.. I would rather look for forged wheels at that point. A bunch of years later and you'll find people selling them cheap, but right now they are too new.

i'll look at some 5 series wheels - thanks.

i don't like the look of aftermarket wheels unless they can pass as oem and a lot, like the majority, can't.

back to the wheels that are linked above for the m3 - would i be able to buy a 5x120 to 5x112 adapter to make those wheels fit? also, would the width of the adapter be enough to clear to caliper?

i'll admit that i know nothing about wheels other than what looks good to my aesthetic eye, so if there are any wheel gurus in here, let me know, please.

If you're stuck on OEM wheels, there are going to be slim pickings on ones that fit. Even the series offerings might be too low of an offset and push out a bit too much outward in relation to the fender.

There are tons of aftermarket offerings in the size ranges that fit....from budget to extravagant. 20x8.5, 5x112 with offsets between 45 and 35 are very common place. Some may not be up to OEM standards, some are equal too and some are beyond.

damnit.

i did look at the wheels available on tirerack because i don't really know where else to look and i didn't like any of them.

i guess i'll keep the 19"s, although the 20"s really do look good on the car and now that it's slightly lowered i feel like their deficiencies stand out even more.

Yeah, Tire Rack was a good start...but they really don't have all the aftermarket offerings, as they tend to offer more of the mass market brands....

Though it doesnt sound all the right, but look around small to middle sized VW/Audi wheel offerings as reference points of wheel styles. Technically they are the same bolt pattern and offset.

What condition are your 19s in? I have the 20s but find them to be a bit too low profile for the condition of our roads in Massachusetts.

haha, sadly there would be no easy way to exchange wheels living on opposite coasts of the country.

Oh how I love those wheels and would love to meet with you to trade Seaton463... but I agree, those 20's are treacherous in MA! I did think about 20's more than once, but my own residential area is a pitfall of crappy patched roads and I have to drive pretty slowly to get out of my area.... Where in MA are you? I work downtown Boston, but live out West. (hence I get to romp on it getting on and off the highways.)

Do the 19s have the M emblem as well?

I am not sure I would do a straight swap given the value difference in the wheels.

What tires and how many miles do you have on them? What condition are the wheels in?

Oh I'm all good with my wheels.. Don't want to risk 20's . But yes the 19's have the little m on it too. And so far so good.. My wheels should technically be pristine.. but I've logged at least 5k on it ( I have the winter set). Although if you really want to get rid of them one of these days...

I was just more curious where you are in MA and if our paths will cross sometime.. I've only seen one other m35i on the road..maybe two.
