Mapping Update - EUROPE WAY Version 2020-2

For anyone in the UK/Europe interested in updating their SatNav system mapping, version EUROPE WAY 2020-2 is now available for download and installation via the BMW Download Manager App for Mac/PC.
Interestingly, the UK/Ireland only navigation mapping update was automatically downloaded over the air onto my X1 a few weeks ago but, as indicated above, that was ONLY for the UK/Ireland roads updates and didn't include the other EU countries so, presumably, this brings the complete system up to date.
I don't know anything about updates for other areas of the world.

Cheers for the heads-up! My older 2016 X1 uses the ROUTE maps, rather than the WAY ones, but I just checked after your post and there's a new 2020-02 version of that as well Downloading now... The last update was back in February for the 2020-01 version. Thanks again!

When I put the Usb stick in the car to update the map it does a lot of no useable data and other beggarin about and the at the end of it all its updated it. If I look on the map edition its now 2020-2 and take out the Usb stick and it works fine. Does anyone else's do this?

It seems, from my previous experience with updates, that if you remove the USB dongle with the extracted data (from your download) before the SatNav restarts, it will show the latest version as having been loaded whereas in reality it hasn't fully transferred to the car. The transfer of the data to the car from USB usually takes around 20 minutes either with ignition on or whilst driving. Also ensure you have followed all the steps in the App before removing the USB from your Mac/PC.
Did you ensure the USB stick was formatted to FAT32 before trying to transfer the data within the BMW Download Manager app?
I have for the past 3 or 4 updates successfully used a 16gb USB dongle that I formatted in my Mac using Disk Utility, but its probably a slightly different procedure if you format it in a PC.
So hope that helps.

I think you may be right about removing usb too early.
I will be more careful next time. The map is showing as being updated so it should be ok. I use the same usb stick just delete the previous version.

If you did remove the USB dongle too soon, whilst it may show as being the 2020-2 version, in reality I think it will not have updated properly. Whilst this is pure supposition on my part, I wonder if some of the mapping might have become corrupted if the update wasn’t given time to properly transfer.
If you still have the downloaded/extracted data on the USB I’d try putting it into the car again and turn on the ignition to see if the update restarts. Then leave it until it’s done it’s stuff.

When the update ends it shows a message about it and you press ok to move on.
It normally takes about 15-20 minutes to install the update.

I’ll repeat the update and see if it gives that message.

I think I know what went wrong. I have two usb sticks a 128Gb for car software updates and a 16Gb for map updates. I chose the 128 for the map update and I don't think it liked it. Have used the 16 now and will update tomorrow.

I always format the USB (as FAT32) before transferring the new mapping updates to it for installation in the car.
As to what may have changed re roads etc, BMW don't give any indication and I imagine it will be just regular updates from their (part BMW owned) mapping provider (Here Technologies - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Here_Technologies).

I use a 32GB USB3 SanDisk stick, formatted with a single FAT32 partition, and that has always worked for me.

Yes and 16GB USB 3.0 works perfectly well too, also formatted as FAT32.
