Tracking and wheel alignment
On our way back to the ferry port in Cherbourg, I managed to hit a high kerb. The thud was felt right through the car. Fortunately there’s no damage except to my pride and the wheel alignment.
The rear right wheel (the one that made contact with the kerb) had a negative reading camber of 0 degrees 45’. This meant everything else was out. It’s since been corrected and adjusted by specialists. What surprised me however that the impact with the kerb was at about 3 mph. Barely moving. I since wonder if there’s a difference in the setting when on winter tyres and wheels as opposed to the standard wheels and tyres. |

On this subject again, if you want the car’s wheel tracking and alignment make sure the car is properly weighted first.
I used a different garage tyre supplier who found on changing from my winter wheels and tyres back to summer wheels and tyres, the alignment and toeing was significantly out. I had done about 3,000 miles mostly on French and Swiss motorways. Hardly roads with potholes. It appears that BMW require the alignment and tracking should be done with the equivalent of at least one passenger in the rear and the weight of a driver. It sounds logical. |

Absolutely agree. Makes sense to carry out these with what Mr Joe Average would be using.
