BMW stigma and reputation
I'm sure we all know BMWs have a reputation for exceptional handling from the lowly models to the M cars. However, perception can also become reality.
What other reputations and stigma come with this moniker? For instance: 1. BMW drivers are bad drivers - no signaling, etc. 2. BMW drivers are snobs - pretentious, name brand lover 3. BMW drivers like to modify their vehicle continuously I've been challenged to an impromptu race on the highway from Mustangs, Hondas, Subarus on numerous occasions. For example, I could be driving double the speed limit in a slow lane and I still have folks trying to pass me and cut me off as if they're trying to say their vehicle is faster or superior in some way. Keeping in mind I'm driving a lumbering 4 cylinder SUV. Are any of these reputation deserved or true? What other reputations are contributed to the name BMW? Since buying my X1 (first BMW) I've also experienced some drivers acting like D/Hs around me.
Never had that happen with my Mitsubishi Lancer ... |

I am a baby boomer and have driven a number of cars over 46 years (owned or rented). I looked into Mercedes, Lexus and Infiniti before deciding on BMW because I just liked it better. |

More misplaced reputations:
4. BMW drivers have indulgent Daddy & Mommy 5. BMW drivers are trying to impress their boyfriend/girlfriend/boss/somebody 6. BMW drivers can't afford Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche |

Interesting perspective on the European side. I'm wondering what North America study would reveal.

If you like the car, that's all that should matter.

I hear the same thing. "BMW drivers are <insert bad word here>"
Usually my response is: "Have you driven one?" In reality though I believe people "notice" BMWs more than others because of their design, it draws attention. There are terrible drivers with every brand of car. Personally, I think Mercedes drivers are terrible |

Certainly not me. My wife and I also have a VW Golf SV. As pensioners we do take care on what and how we spend. Especially as we also have an Alvis Grey Lady and Triumph Stag to play with.
We used to consider Volvo drivers the pits, but in our opinion that badge has to go to Audi drivers! Labelling is dangerous as there are of course good and bad drivers of all makes. |

BMW drivers are like Porcupines except the pricks are on the inside.
