can't find amplifier! HELP

Hi all,

I have 2017 X1 with this VIN # - WBXHT3Z37H4A54222 -

It comes with HIFI but I can't find the amplifier - I checked left and right side by removing the trim but serious there is nothing there!

I found some unattached connectors on the right side but it wasn't compatible with Harman Kardon Amplifier.

If someone removed/swapped his amp please help!

If your car has HiFi option then amp is located at the left rear quarter panel behind body panel. If not there then you have the basic stereo, not hifi, where amp is built in to your radio.

Checking your VIN, it says you have option S676a which means your car came factory fitted with amplifier hifi system (so BMW middle option which sits between basic and the HK system). Unless somebody removed it and coded your HU for basic hifi, you should have an amplifier behind panels in the trunk of your car. [please note specs vary by market but I am not aware of option s676a coming with just speaker upgrade and no amp but someone may know different].

If somebody removed the amp then you should still have the cabling and hopefully bracket, ejw2011 has kindly provided link to parts and location diagram. Unless you have had the car from new it is of course possible someone upgraded and then removed the upgrade and/or the amp was relocated (or just ditched), Good luck, hope you find it.
Here is side panel removal instruction (step 1)

I've found it! it was under the insulation.

replacing HIFI amp with HK amp made a really good difference.

How difficult was it to find the amp? Do you need to remove all the side paneling in the left rear cargo space?

I'm also interested in doing this swap. Could you post some pictures? Do you still have the HiFi speakers or have you replaced them with HK?

so after mucking around figured it out.

the instructions from here https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...nit/1VnYX8ir4E were useless to me as my rear seats do not move.

First step is to unscrew the bolt circled in red in the first pic. then use a trim removal tool to pull down the side trim. there just a few clips that you'll hear pop as your pulling away. you actually don't have to remove it all to access the amp as seen in the second pic.

i upgraded to a Match Up 7BMW amp. I still need to load a custom tune, but it made a huge difference.

Thank you for the pics! Does it fit in the OEM braket? Did you have the HiFi or HK before installing the Match?
The harness is plug-and-play?

It comes with its own mounting bracket.

I had Hifi. Will only work with hifi systems apparently bc it is plug and play.

Great writeup but the correct instructions if your car does not have the sliding rear seats are here:
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...nel/1VnYhIfNZn

Then the amp bracket disassembly is here:

Just getting ready to install my new amp too!

This is truly the "M package" for your SAVs audio! This amp delivers high quality, detailed audio versus just "loud" and is a major improvement over the stock hi-fi configuration. Now the underseat woofers generate solid mid-range bass that can only be improved with a subwoofer in the trunk. Installation began with a review of directions at newTIS.info for the removal of the side panel, disconnecting the negative lead from the battery then, using trim removal tools and a generous measure of patience, finally gaining access to the Hi-Fi amp mounting plate. Wiring the Match Up 7BMW amp was the easiest part; it's truly "plug 'n play." Programming/configuration was done with a Windows PC using the DSP PC-tool V4 and various sample sound setup files (as a basis) downloaded from the Audiotec Fisher website.

I’ve successfully installed the Match amp. My concern is the settings. I had to run the software on my Mac laptop using a program called Wine, allowing pc software to run on a Mac. I’d love to see screenshots of completed configurations to make sure mine actually worked. I don’t fully trust the pc to Mac emulator.

Here's some screenshots of the PC-Tool configuration screens in Demo mode. The very last one is my sound configuration for the front speakers from one of the various sound files that I created. I apologize in advance for the size of the pics - didn't see a way to make them just thumbnails.

Thanks for the pics. Now I can’t get the pc to Mac emulator to work after a system update. Guess I need to borrow a pc laptop!

I borrowed a Windows laptop and loaded the SUV settings to the Match amp. Sounds so much better. My question is the low pass filter setting. The preset has it at, if I remember, around 700hz. Shouldn’t it be much higher, 20,000hz? I’ve read about sub settings - 60hz - 150hz and high pass settings for the 4” of 150 or so. That makes sense to me. Why wouldn’t the low pass (the one on the right) be set to reflect the frequency response of the speaker?

Brother, I'm struggling just like you to wrap my head around this whole high / lowpass filter setting. I understand the concept but thought that these settings should reflect just the frequency range of the installed HiFi speakers.

Problem is that I can't find these frequency response specs anywhere on the web. So I reached out to an audio pro (Technic) on the other board with my question for these settings, since I was customizing the downloaded, pre-configured SUV Sound file. Below is a copy of his response:

The result for me was that everything sounded muffled (all mids and muddy) with muted (limited) high frequencies. I ended up just adjusting both filter sliders wider to get back those high frequencies that were missing and just used the equalizer to contour the newly available audio sound to my liking. I sure would be open to any audiophiles suggestions that have experience with this setting in our BMW's.

The best explanation that I found about/for crossover settings is this vid on YouTube:

Problem again is that I can't find the resonate frequency or other specs on the HiFi speakers (4's & 8's).

"Say hello to my little friend"- Tony 'Scarface' Montana.

Picked up a Focal Bomba BP20, 150-watt (max power - 300 watts) powered, ported subwoofer (frequency response: 25Hz to 125Hz). This should be the perfect compliment for the Match7 BMW amp to give me that low bass that the stock, underseat woofers can't provide. It is compact in size (aprox. 17 x 12 x 9 inches) and the angled back matches the rear seats when reclined. I plan to power it from the power outlet in back since it only draws 15 amps max.

Noob question, but how will you integrate the powered sub into your existing setup? I’m looking for more sound/bass.

On the opposite side of the power inputs of the Match7 amp, there is a LINE OUT jack [(mono) - pic #1] that you plug in a shielded subwoofer cable [(BlueRigger Subwoofer RCA to RCA Audio Cable- Dual Shielded with Gold Plated Connectors, 15FT, Black) - pic #2] to go to the Focal subwoofer. The input jack(s) on the sub is a stereo connection so I purchased a 2-in-1 adapter cable [(Rockford Fosgate RFITY-1F Y Adapter 2 Male to 1 Female Signal Cable) - pic #3] to accept the shielded cable from the Match7 LINE OUT jack and connect to the signal inputs on the Focal sub. To power the Focal sub, I used a cigarette lighter extension cable [(BESTEK 12.1ft / 3.7m 12V 24V Cigarette Lighter Extension Cord, 12AWG Heavy Duty Cigarette Lighter Cable with Cigarette Lighter Plug Socket, Black) - pic #4] with the female socket cut off to expose the two, 12AWG conductors inside. These wires were then connected to the power input on the Focal sub. The male plug on the opposite end of this extension cable plugs into the power outlet located on the passenger side of the trunk. Frequency response (and additional amplification, if needed) of/by the subwoofer is done by adjusting the controls on the sub itself. The Match7 amp does not acoustically process (DSP) this signal, only enables it by turning ON/OFF this channel.

Just a suggestion to clean it up and make it more pro, why not pop that panel and tap off the other side of that aux plug that way you don't have dangly wires
