drivetrain question

Hi! i have 2017 X1 x28i, and have a couple of quick questions:

1. in normal driving, my understanding is only the 2 front wheels are driving the car; so does the drive shaft actually rotates as well, and the haldex unit determines if it will send power to the 2 rear wheels when necessary making the car go AWD? if that's the case, then the angle gear actually works all the time to drive the drive shaft?

2. i'm planning to change the angle gear oil soon, and the most available synthetic 75w-90 GL-5 gear oils have the limited slip [LS] additive, will that be ok to use?

thanks!

I find people use LS additive fluid on non LSD.
I will just avoid.
BMW original is 70W80.
Hypoid Axle Oil G3 (Fuchs Titan EG 4218) 83222413512
On Red line site 75W85 (50104) is the recommended fluid.

Liqui Moly (LM2048) which is discontinued and replaced with
Liqui Moly (LM22090). They both are 75W90.

I chose Redline 75W90 for rear differential and Liqui Moly LM22090 for transfer box.

You will have to choose which to use.

Thank you X1604M for your reply. i will go with your recommendation of Redline for the rear diff and Liqui Moly LM22090 for transfer box. One last question, for the haldex unit [HOC], other than OEM and Ravenol AWD-H, any other alternative readily available?

Some use different brands and seems ok. If you look on Reline site this is their recommendation. MT-LV 70W/75W GL-4

But I am not comfortable with that option alone. So I ended up getting BMW HOC fluid for 92 Cad after tax.

You will find some more info in the following thread.

For the transmission I chose Liqui Moly toptech 1800. I ordered the transmission fluid and LM22090 from Fcp Euro for pickup across the border since they have the lowest price.

For engine oil Walmart US has sale going on for the Castrol Edge 0W20 LL 17 Synthetic Engine Oil 4.73 L for about 28usd.
