X1 depreciation/recall
I was considering trading in my 2018 X1 on a golf r. I liked the golf, started negotiating, and got to a good price on it. But when we got to the trade-in, they only offered me 20k. The car only has 7500 miles and has no dents, dings, paint chips, nothing. KBB trade in value was about 28k
They told me that they couldn’t sell resell the X1 with an open safety recall, so they could only give me wholesale for it. Has anyone else run into this? Does the recall tank the value that badly? What have others gotten for their trade-in? |

Another option is to buy the golf with your negotiated 'good price', and sell the X1 yourself. Trade-in is traditionally where the dealer made their money. An open recall surely gave them another excuse to low ball you. But smart people don't trade in cars that are only a year old.

I ended up getting the X1 because I thought I wanted a CUV. I definitely liked it more than the CRV, RAV4, outback, and GLA 250. But there is something missing from the driving experience of the CUV class as a whole. |

I have to disagree with Jorix. No dealer will pay full value for your car since they have to make a profit reselling your car. If you do, expect 3k - 5k less from dealer. You can always sell your vehicle privately to get close to book value.
Go to iseecars.com and enter your Vin and current mileage to get a better value of your car as a reference point. |
