3GT vs X4
Currently I have an E92 M3…Looking for something with more utility and 4 doors but still a blast to drive…and trying to get away from regular sedan/coupe…debating between 335 drive 3GT and X4 35i…Any opinions on this subject?!?

Well the X4 will be taller slightly taller than the GT but will have less utility due to smaller interior & trunk space. It also will not handle as well so to me the GT would be better utility and fun driving experience than an X4.

Not seen the X4 live. My comments:
- X4 will be a bit more exclusive. - GT will drive a bit better, but I expect the X4 to be plenty of fun too. - For rear legroom and versatility, GT wins hands down (proper three seats in the back with almost as much room as a 7er). X4 has a smaller trunk, less space and I assume you will struggle to carry three adults or three baby seats in the back. But perhaps you don't plan to. - X4 will be AWD. GT can, but is RWD standard. Your call. - Aesthetically speaking, I love both lines, it is a tie for me. Have you considered the 4 Gran Coupe? 4 door, hatchback, sporty and exclusive. Maybe it can fit the bill too... |

The GT is better than X4 on (a) marginally. But the option (c) is only available on GT as far as remember. I may be wrong though. Also, one negative aspect about X4 is that its rear seats are not really for adults on long drives. The seats are low to ground due to sloping roof, and hence you don't have enough thigh support, a bit like sitting in a kids chair. Last edited by sushkr; 04-24-2015 at 08:42 AM.. |

This is a subject dear to my heart, and I call myself an "authority" since I went through the same evaluation process and now own a 2015 335iX GT. I picked up my GT on September 2014 in Munich. Please see the discussion thread entitled "My test drive 335iX GT in Manhattan". I feel the GT to be the better vehicle hands down. After 5 months, here are a few considerations to think about (and I would consider them myself if I suddenly had to get another GT): I selected Luxury Line for the chrome trim, more exterior color choices and saddle tan leather interior choice. The M Sport model has fewer exterior color choices. black trim and does not off the saddle tan leather, but has the superior M steering wheel and sport seats. I"m now in the process of switching my steering wheel to the M type, but can't do anything about sport seats. As for options, I didn't get the collision mitigation system or the adaptive suspension, but would consider them if buying again. Ride quality is acceptably "taught" on our poor road surfaces, so I would not want a stiffer ride, but handling in corners in only fair. I've read comments by members that the adaptive suspension does not really help cornering ability. Perhaps these comments will help with your decisions. Good luck!

If utility is a major factor, then 3GT all the way...It continues to blow me away with its utility.
The X4 35i weighs 4260 lbs to the 335GT 4010 lbs, has a higher center of gravity, less passenger space, less cargo space, and gets 3 mpg less than the 335GT. You may want to check out the Macan if you're seriously considering the X4...Almost identical in size and same ballpark price-wise (assuming you're looking at X4 35i). Never driven the Macan, but reviews have given its handling and dynamics high marks. I have to think the Macan will hold its value much better too. If I were in the market for a "utility" ride again, it'd probably come down to the 335GT and Macan S. The 435i gran coupe is very good looking, but beyond the hatchback it offers nothing utility-wise over the normal 3er.

I went for the GT because I wanted something different from Saloon, but fun to play with and good for growing family.
If you need to move around family, plus all their kit a lot - GT is a good option. |

I have a 3GT. It's significantly bigger interior and storage vs. The x4. I just drove an X4 yesterday after owning my gt for nearly 2 years. Like someone mentioned...in the real world, x4 is tight in comparison. Rear leg room, etc. I do like the slightly elevated ride height for ingress egress. That's my only complaint. I wouldn't get the M sport again...hate the seats.

You really need to see both vehicles in person.
The 3GT ticks all the boxes while the X4 seems to hold it's own quarter. All you will get with the X4 is more ride hight to be honest but if that is your need then go for it. If you want to drive some thing that has more space in the front, rear and boot (trunk) and drives tight then the 3GT is what you need.

X4 owners would disagree. It appeals to niche clientèle. Some like its look of a 'sport-coupe' as opposed to 'sport-utility' (as in X3). Sometimes folks want to be different and not everyone needs large space on rear seats, or a "practical" vehicle. In my view, X4 could be cross-shopped with X3 and 4GC. X4 would appeal to those who need the extra height but in a compact package. Actually, here in Pennsylvania, I have spotted many more X4s than 3GTs.
There are other threads on this topic (X4 vs. 3GT, and then also comparison with X3 and 4GC): http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=974579 http://www.x4club.com/forum/bmw-x4-v...3-vs-3-gt.html Last edited by sushkr; 12-13-2015 at 09:07 PM.. Reason: cited the same link twice |

IMO there is no need to be higher than the GT, being two inches taller than the average car. My main objection to SUVs in general is that they're way too high, the tires are too big, and the wheel reveal is ridiculous. Those attributes are of value if you actually use an SUV off-road, but the vast majority of SUVs are never used off-road. The X4 may not be silly big like a GMC Yukon, but nonetheless it doesn't offer anything over a GT except less room and worse handling at a higher price.

I crossed shopped the 2 and picked the GT for the added room, X4 was tight in the back and trading in my F30 to have the same room for my growing family did not make sense.
