I have to say, judging from just pictures, I thought the M sport looked very wagonish and I liked the X line more.
BUT now that I have finally seen the M sport in real life.... the M sport does look better then the X line, and in person it does not look wagonish like it does in pictures, It really does look like a baby x5 I may have to change my order now |

What an improvement!
What are the chances that M Performance side skirts will actually become an option for the F48? This cosmetic mod greatly improves the ugly, boxy side profile of the M Sport version on light colors. Also, why doesn't BMWNA offer simply the "Sport Package" in the US, as they do for the rest of the world? This would allow us to get sport seats without being forced into the M Sport look. |

I've just ordered a new X1 Xdrive 20i M-Sport. I really liked the look of the 19inch wheels (an approx £600 option in the UK) - BUT - I had a loan of an M-sport for a day with the 19 inch wheels (which only come with run-crap tyres) and the ride was too harsh and noisy.
The standard 18inch wheels come with normal (non run-crap) tyres. So, more rubber and less hardness. Shame, though - lovely wheels but I couldn't live with the ride on UK roads. |

EDIT- Just looked at the UK website. Looks like you are stuck with runflats on the 19's. No adjustable suspension option either. But...you could delete the M Sport suspension even with the M Sport package. Last edited by ForkLiter; 06-17-2016 at 09:55 AM.. |

The UK options price list shows the Electronic Damper Control (EDC, option code 223) to be mutually exclusive with the M Sport suspension (option code 704). You can choose to have EDC with an M Sport model, but you lose the M Sport suspension option...
It's my understanding that the EDC only allows you to stiffen the suspension, not soften it beyond the "standard" suspension, although I haven't tried this myself as I'm still excitedly waiting for my delivery (and I didn't choose the EDC option) |

I have ordered the adjustable suspension (EDC).
If the same applies to the X1 as to my current car (M135i) then EDC does not replace the M-sport suspension, it "suppliments it", in that all other aspects of the suspension remain M-sport (springs, ride-height) but only the dampers are modified (hence "electronic Damper control") I didn't want to completely delete the M-sport suspension (there is an option to do that). I'm taking a leap in the dark, but I'm hoping the combination of 18inch wheels, non-runflat tyres & M-sport suspension with EDC will give me a ride which I can live with, compared to the loan X1 I had with M-sport suspension (but no EDC) + 19inch wheels + run-flats - too uncomfortable. |

The attached snippet from the UK April 2016 price list suggests it's one or the other though, if I'm reading it correctly. Are you sure the dealer has ordered both options (223 and 704) ?

You'll note the line underneath the EDC which has a cost option of £150- this is only applicable to M-Sport cars and is in conjunction with M-Sport suspension. It's impossible to specify the full EDC (223 @ £390) with M-Sport suspension (704).
Look at the prices £150 (part-EDC) & M-Sport suspension (£240) = £390 (the cost of the full EDC option). |

EDIT: The Electronic Damper Control system is well described in a PDF attached in another post here: http://f48.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...33&postcount=1 (document number 4) The default mode for the electronic dampers is the Sports setting, and when changed to Comfort mode a solenoid in each damper moves a valve to change the damping characteristics. Unfortunately the document doesn't explicitly state the compatibility with M Sport suspension... Last edited by CliveL; 06-17-2016 at 12:56 PM.. |

OK, just got off the phone with a "BMW Genius" adviser.
According to him, the EDC option does replace/remove the M-sport suspension. Hence, as suggested in a post above, the EDC option = £150 on the X1 M-sport due to the fact that you are removing M-sport suspension (-£240) and adding EDC (+£390) , so net cost = +£150. I'm OK with this as I want a softer ride with the option of making it a bit firmer on occasions (ooh errr.... )...and I assume my X1 will not be 38mm lower as it will not have M-sport suspension. I was getting confused because my M135i has "Adaptive M-Sport suspension" which is M-sport suspension with adaptive dampers. This is not so in the X1 M-sport. Anyway, enough said. |

We have MSport,18in RFTs, plus EDC. Ride in Comfort is very good - much better than our last 530d F10 MSport on 19s. On the harder damper setting, ride is noticeably firmer obviously. I Drive settings for Sport allows three options - engine, chassis, or engine+chassis. It's a great value option at £150....

This has been covered in other threads. Depending on the market, there are three possible suspension configurations (confirmed by the different part numbers in the ETK).
- Standard suspension - M-Sport suspension (some posts suggest this is standard on xDrives in the US - can't confirm; not offered at all in Australia) - EDC suspension, which incorporates the variable damping control. The entire strut units (F&R) are different part numbers, and those part numbers changed again for cars with a production date in or after January 2016. This suggests BMW initiated an inline production change to the EDC damping, probably in response to the many criticism in review about the harsh ride and suspension noise of early cars. With EDC suspension, the default setting is Comfort. There is no damping adjustment from Comfort in Eco-Pro. The Sport setting provides firmer damping, which is very similar to the Comfort setting in my M135i ( which also has adjustable dampers AND MSport suspension).

Drove an MSport non EDC car last week & it was fine by me, firm but not crashy & didn't roll on the bends.
I'm leaving my order as is, don't need EDC & didn't want to lose the MSport set up. |

I'm after a "softer" suspension - so it's good to know that EDC Sport = M135i Comfort. I also assume that, as the car won't have M-sport suspension, it won't be lowered by 38mm, which I found rather ironic (raise the car for better ground clearance...and then lower it again!)
